@ruth36 Sadly, I know exactly what you are feeling! To start my afib treatment was to take coumadin bc Eliquest was $550 per month and I liked the thought of having my blood checked while on a blood thinner. Eventually, I found generic Eliquest out of Canada for $79 per month, so I started it. Fairly soon after starting it , I began having a lot more joint pain and brief vision disturbances. I told my Doctor's nurse about my painful joints. She completely dismissed my complaint by saying that side effect ISNT ON MY LIST! It angered me so I said I dont care what your list shows. At that point, I'd only taken Eliquest for one month. Then I had the ablation and it worked but 2 days after my surgery, I got extremely sick with vomiting and diarrhea. It lasted 2 days and I thought it was covid. However, a few days later, it was a repeat of vomiting and diarrhea. I started getting suspicious of the Eliquest bc I was progressively weaker, nausea, constipation, fever up to 103, shaking and a lot of pain on the right side of my body (neck, shoulder, hip & knee). Sleeping on my right side is a favorite sleeping position but that was too painful so I slept on my back. I'd feel better for a couple days but then spin right back into vomiting and joint pain. It got so bad that I didn't want to eat and when I did eat it continued to make me nauseous. I lost 13 lbs in a month! I tried to contact my EP but was told to contact my primary care doctor or go to the ER. So after 2 Urgent care visits and 2 ER visits, it was found that my heart, kidney and liver enzymes were off the charts! I was transported by ambulance from the Urgent care center to the Hospital. The hospital ran all sorts of tests and nearly all were in the abnormal ranges, so no diagnosis could be made. The hospital wanted me to stay for a third day but I told them I was quitting Eliquest and going home! Its only been 2 weeks since then but I am getting back my health. The vomiting, diarrhea and fevers stopped. It is taking time for the nausea to stop but I am getting my appetite back just now. The way and speed that I was going downhill with Eliquest, I think I would have died. Now my blood tests are slowly getting back close to normal ranges and I am able to ride my horses again. I think the Eliquest side effects were ignored. How sad is that? What would have happened to me if I had dutifully stayed on that poison? Yikes!

@rebeccadixon I am so glad to hear that someone else has been affected by painful muscles, just like myself. I never dreamed that all this pain I experience all up my legs, my feet and each and every toe on my left side (Weak- sided from a stroke 25 years ago) could be caused by taking Eliquis! It's such a relief to know I'm not alone in this. I struggle to climb the stairs and I have so much stiffness in my knee that I can barely stand up from a chair or get out of bed in the mornings. I'm now waiting for an MRI scan because my Physiotherapist has been very puzzled what could be causing me so much pain and thinks it might be something 'neurological'. I can't wait to tell her!

OMG, you poor thing…thank goodness you’re finally getting some relief.
I don’t know why doctors don’t want to listen to their patients!
I started with my legs, hurting me back in the beginning of February which at that time I was on Eliquis for a month, never really had issues this bad with my legs Once in a while in the winter, I think because of the north east weather but as soon as the warm weather came, it went away, but this time it’s not going away, seems like it keeps getting worse and worse.
When I went to my primary, I told her about it and she ordered an x-ray on my knees. Well now they’re telling me it’s arthritis, but I still feel like Eliquis Has something to do with it too, but my cardiologist at my last visit told me I should stay on the Eliquis at least until December, which will mean I’ve been on it for a year..
So I’m gonna try and stick it out the next few months and wondering what she’s gonna put me on after that.. A lot of these meds that you see advertise on TV the side effects are worse than the ailment. You can’t seem to win but thank God I haven’t got fevers or nausea, diarrhea or anything like that. It’s just my legs are killing me (my knees). It hurts so bad when I walk but I keep active. I don’t just sit there and don’t just sit. I don’t feel like doing stuff, but it has to be done.
But I wanna thank everybody that commented on my situation..
My primary asked me if I want to see an orthopedic doctor, but you know how that goes. Trying to get an appointment as a new patient, but I really need some advice on what I can take to help the pain. I’ve tried Tylenol but it doesn’t seem like it helps much at all and I’m not one to keep taking meds like that because I also have a liver condition that I take a medication for and I know a lot of these meds can actually damage your liver or kidneys, so I have to ask the doctor every few months to put in an order for me to make sure my liver and kidneys are functioning OK
It’s a sad world that the medical field has come to what it is now, years ago you could go to one doctor and they would deal with whatever problem you were having but nowadays, you have to see a specialist for every little ache and pain!
