Has anyone used Mepitel for radiation? Did it help?
I’m about to start radiation therapy and I have incredibly sensitive skin. Has anyone used Mepitel to ease the severity of skin issues? And if so, how was your experience? Did it help?

@svb How much of it did you need? I'm looking to order as I will be having radiation soon. I'm out of state so will have to have it shipped etc. I'm trying to figure out how much to order from the Mayo Clinic store. Did you order the smaller or the larger size sheet? Thanks so much for any insights you can provide.

I purchased 2 of the
15 x 20 cm and 2 of the 10 x 25 cm.
When showering, I placed a hand towel over the area where the Mepitel was and that kept it from peeling off. I only needed to have a little bit patched a few times.
Hope this helps and please reach out with any questions.

3 Reactions@jmccap my Proton Therapy center wouldn’t use it on me and I got 3rd degree burns. If you can get your radiation center to use it, say YES. And if you have some on hand, order as much as you can!!
I used it in January at Mayo. I had 15 radiation sessions with "The Beam". Mayo did the application and patching and trimming as I progressed through treatment. I used a hair dresser cape to keep it dry in the shower. I was told to leave it on for 2 weeks after and then gently remove in the shower
My skin has been perfect - no blisters, no redness, no itching at all. I just use thick creams to keep it moisturized on a daily basis.

My Mepitel was applied yesterday. I did moderate exercise and already stink. Do you have any advice on how not to stink to high heaven for 5 or more days? Continuing with Low to moderate exercise is recommended. All I can say is that my deodorant when used really works!
My oncologist recommended it and believes it should be standard of care. I had 5 targeted sessions and no skin reaction. I asked the radiation tech to apply it since she had a better idea of what area the targeted radiation would affect. I used the large rectangular shaped on that is available on the Mayo Store for 19 dollars. In hindsight, I did have a small area above the mepitel that turned a little red, and may have covered more of the surrounding area. I highly recommend this stuff! I ordered extra and donated it back to the cancer center.
@chorn I was told I could shower with it and did. I did try to keep the mepitel out of any "hard stream" of water. After the 3rd shower the edges curled up a bit. It is a bummer we can't use deodorant during the process, lot's of "pit sponge baths" , ha ha. Good luck!
