Concerned that I have hit BCR

Posted by cmoto @cmoto, Jul 20 10:27pm

Diagnosed at 52. PSA 2.5. 4+3 with cribrifrom and IDC. RALP. clean margins, 5% tumor volume, no lymph or sv invasion.
My onc uses a lab for < 0.03 and I have undetectable for 2 years. This week though my PSA was 0.04. I am sad, angry and scared. Is my cancer back on? I am meeting my onc for annual checkup this week. What should I be asking him?

What you just asked
Is my cancer back?
My guess is the doc will tell you it may never really left your system entirely but the micro specs of it are so indolent that it took two years for your PSA to go from .03 to .04. He may also say at such low test result levels it may be .03 today w another test just like the previous one had that registered .04

I'm sure your doc will have very reassuring news for you
Good luck!!

Quick update - My next 6 week test result on October 1 - my PSA went back down to < 0.03 which is considered undetectable at my lab. So from July it popped up to 0.04, then 6 weeks later to 0.03 and then 6 weeks later back to < 0.03 which is where it was in April and has been for the last 2 years. This has been a truly crazy emotional rollercoaster from which I am still very much trying to recover. I use the same lab every time, and the blood was drawn between 830 and 1230 for all 4 tests.

Hi Buddy:
I just finished reading all the posts here and i had absolutely no idea how much anxiety prostate cancer can cause.
My sincerest sympathy to you for all you are going through.
I have to say in all honesty, that your PC situation is quite enviable and is nothing to be worried about, however everybody is different, and some men simply can't get it out of their head. In that case you are well advised to get counseling. I say that, because .04 is simply a gift. I know that you have many years of long and healthy life in front of you.
Your other problem is more serious. I go the gym 2-3 days a week and do a vigorous work out for 3 hours and when it is over i am tired but mentally uplifted. Maybe you could try the same, it really works.
Let me give you a quick background. I had a proctectomy on 07/05/23 and 6 weeks latter the psa was < .01 over the next 18 months it went up to .34. I has a shot of Lupron in January 25 and then 20 rounds of radiation and as of July the psa was < .01. My Decipher was 94, psa before the operation was 25 and Gleason was 9.
Please keep us informed as we worry about you.
Thanks
John
