I'm going to push back on two of these statements. Chemo does not "destroy" your immune system. While you're on carbo/taxol, you can go out, and will fend off disease well enough. Some people develop neutropenia (low neutrophils), which can be managed by reducing the dose or taking a neutrophil growth factor (eg Neulasta). And chemo definitely does not increase the risk of recurrence. Chemo is standard of care because clinical trials have shown that it reduces the risk of recurrence.

Thank you for the information you provided. It is what I have been told from my med oncologist as well. I am getting ready to start my chemo treatments this coming week. It is hard not knowing what to expect but I am very hopeful. I have come up with an amusing way to look at Chemo. It is like pac man. Remember that game. We'll pac man is going to find any cancer cells and destroy them. It helps me to invision that and think of the treatment as my partner not the enemy. Thanks for your encouragement!!
