Posted by mikejjb123 @mikejjb123, Feb 10, 2024

I have GERD and Colitis. For years I would wake up to nausea. Now I wake up to chest aches and pain. Not my heart as I went to the doctor. Tylenol does help. Any ideas why this is occurring???? Thanks.

@mikejjb123, I make the same mistake every time I have a new problem or symptoms, it scares me because they list everything from minor to major issues and naturally I dwell on the worst things, I have a colonoscopy for this month, a five year follow up and I’m stressed, what else is new. 🙂

@frouke Had colonoscopy 2 weeks ago. Dr. acted afterwards like my life was over, but of course just sent me a copy of results and not actual followup. Ive learned that many Drs. are winging it cause they have no answers, especially to aches and pains from GERD and UC. Good luck.

mikejjb123, if it gets intense you have to go to emergency. I get the same; those yard clippers can give you pleural pain. Finally I saw the cardiologist and had all the testing. Aced the treadmill stress. It is ok to be wrong in the emergency dept. It's what everyone hopes for.

Hi, @mikejjb123 - I can see that you are feeling scared, as you mentioned the internet prompting in you when you spend time there.

I have for sure seen relatives get scared to death with only partial information (e.g., results from scans or labs) and a lot of time spent on the Internet. I've done this myself when trying to understand radiologic or pathologic results before getting an interpretation from my physician. That is indeed why some physicians recommend against "Dr. Google," so to speak. Context, for each of our own particular situations, is king, as you know.

You will note I moved some of your similar posts here to one conversation where you can speak to others talking about digestive diagnoses and pains, such as @coriv123 @covidstinks2023 @rose2023. Also, I'd like to tag @jlharsh @astaingegerdm for their input on your upper and lower chest aches and shoulder ache in light of your ulcerative colitis and GERD diagnoses.

Something to note is that chest pains or burning sensations in the chest are mentioned as key symptoms of GERD in this Mayo Clinic information on the disease:

- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gerd/symptoms-causes/syc-20361940

On the other hand, the ulcerative colitis diagnosis seems to cover some pains in the lower end of the torso. Please see this Mayo Clinic information, particularly the list of symptoms:

- Ulcerative colitis https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ulcerative-colitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20353326

You are also right about aches and pains from working in the yard. I definitely get odd aches and pains from yardwork that I never get from my five days per week at the gym.

It sounds like the internet worried you about having a heart condition. Did the cardiologist have any significant findings with all the testing? And after your colonoscopy, what did the doctor say in the copy of the results you received?

@lisalucier Hello and thank you. Went to "primary" doctor today. EKG which means nothing per se was ok. Oddly the pain is more of discomfort that comes and goes. Today it is on the lower right side of my body back, wouldnt say chest per se. Going to cardiologist Monday to be sure. Be well. Mike

Thanks for tagging me, @lisalucier. Definitely chest pain, GI, muscles and stress are in my wheel house. 😜

@mikejjb123, you mentioned going to your primary doctor last week then your cardiologist was scheduled for Monday.

What did you find out? How are you feeling?

@jlharsh Of course I felt great as soon as I got to cardiologist. Running tests to make sure it is GI related. Thanks.
