First PSA 7 weeks post op
We decided to do PSA test on our own and results came today :
PSA 0.014
I am cautiously happy, but would like to hear what old-timers think about it ? Should it be ideally 0.001 ? BTW we used a Quest lab.

That's a good number at 7 weeks! it should drop even more between now and the 3 month mark! 🙂 My surgeon told that he was really happy with my number and that at 6 month mine should be closer to the 0.00 mark. I would open a pint of Ice cream and celebrate! 🙂

6 ReactionsThanks Jay ☺️🌺
We had only bad news so far after every single additional test or exam since February so I am afraid to get happy about anything and am now questioning and double-guessing even things that might be favorable : /. At the moment I am down with some awful virus, hardly can keep my eyes open and my head is exploding *ughhh My birthday is coming in 2 days and I really hope I get well and also get confirmation that those are good numbers so that we can celebrate 2 things on Friday 🍀

1 ReactionSounds real good to me. What’s really important? Is what you see next time. It could continue to drop, but you don’t want to see it rise.

2 ReactionsYou did the PSA test yourself?
What did you do - jab him with a needle while he was asleep?
Nice that you can just walk into a lab & ask for a test.
Wish we had that down here. I'd be testing every week.....
It's not so much that particular test result, as a *trend*.
You want the next one ideally to be lower than the previous one.
But 0.014 is pretty good.
I've only had one so far & that was 0.05
Take Jay's advice & get into that ice cream.
Hubby's doing well.

1 ReactionUnder .2 is good news. The ongoing testing compared to the first is the important one. I've been .07 three times in a row now, and am quite happy at that.

5 ReactionsHi Surfer, I think that’s an excellent number! My number after surgury was 1.1, then 1.5 and then 2.65. Since I started ADT it’s .23. Hoping for lower on Friday. Not sure when radiation treatments will be reflected in my psa numbers.
Anyway, I think you and your husband should be happy 🙂

2 ReactionsThanks everybody for sharing your numbers, experiences and thoughts 🤗💗 ! I guess than that we can be cautiously happy and hope for the best for now 🧿🍀🍀 , meaning that the next 2 tests are even more important - oh boy, never a dull moment, I guess 😜.
Peter - yes, we can order our own tests in independent labs, but it was not always the case. That happened maybe in the past 15 years or so. It is a HUGE help ! We do not have to beg our PCPs for basic tests any more - they were driving me nuts 😠. Now I can check myself whatever I want to see or know.
Jeff - thanks for encouragement 🙂
Survivor - thanks for explaining that the trend is more important than a number 🙂
John - I will keep my fingers crossed that your PSA comes even lower this Friday 🍀🍀🍀! Keep us posted !

3 ReactionsThat’s a very good number. I am very happy for you. Congratulations!
I did not know that Quest had a PSA test with a precision of three decimal points. Maybe it depends on the location. But, could you share the code for the test so that I can inquire if they offer it here?
