@nelson1996 After my successful second ablation, I have remained on a statin and on a DOAC per instructions given by my cardiologist. My EP didn't disagree or ask if I would rather discontinue them. In fact, he also said I should remain on the DOAC, at least, until I die. I suspect the reason is twofold: a, I am an aging male with incipient hypertension (at the time of the ablations, but improved on my own since then), and b. I have a history of arrhythmia, but specifically the one most likely to produce clots and stroke, that being AF. When I calculate my own CHA2DS2-VASc score using an online calculator, I score a 1 or 1.5, not a 2. Two and higher means the person should be prescribed a DOAC. In my case, though, as a heavy user of a PC while seated, it probably would be smarter for me to just lump it and continue taking the pill twice daily. Cheap insurance against deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
For younger patients, no other comorbidities, if they have a successful ablation AND have a Watchman implanted in their left atrial appendage (where the risk of clots forming is found during AF), and if the Watchman is subsequently determined to be leak-free and sealed properly, those patients can go off of the DOAC....only with guidance from a physician, of course.
