Dialysis problem
It been on Dialysis for over 2 years; just started having muscle spasms and according to my bone and joint specialist these spasms are a byproduct of my PD Dialysis. She recommended 400IU of vitamin E prior to hooking up. Although this has helped they still pop-up routinely and are very painful. Anyone have ideas of how to eliminate these painful experiences.

Hi @rtotal, the muscle spasms related to dialysis sound painful. I'm tagging fellow members @rosemarya @oohlalalita @jtannen1 and @momij who have been on dialysis. I hope they'll have some insights to share.
Interesting that you got advice from your bone and joint specialist. What did your nephrologist advise?
My nephrologist just went along with this really wasn't too concerned. However because these events or so regularly and severe I have to get steroid shots in my back. It is because my bone and joint doctor is very thourgh and qualified he researched before diagnosing. Keep in mind I'm on PT Dialysis.
Years ago, I over dosed on Vitamin E; (little is written on over dose of Vitamin E), except one young medical student noted one paper on subject, as often. Over looked. When I had spasms recently, I added(since I am over 50 Y.O.), vitamin, it worked great. JIM>>>>>>
@rtotal, I would like to extend a belated welcome to connect. As Colleen mentioned, I have been on dialysis. But I was on hemodialysis for several months and I am not familiar with peritoneal dialysis. During my time on dialysis I did not experience any of what you are dealing with. I want you to know that I think that it is great that your nephrologist is aware of and okay with the Vit E treatment prior to hooking up. I hope that you find comfort .
Is it possible that your two doctors, bone/joint and nephrologist, might get their heads together on this? Have you suggested it?

Rosemary as a general rule considering the rural culture that exists in this area specialist doctors to my knowledge don't colalabrate about a patient. Especially considertthe new HEPA laws.
@rtotal, I have been provided with paper forms to give my permission for release of my records to a designated physician or individual.
This might be something to request from your physician. Problems arise if doctors are not willing to work together. This is just an idea that came to me.

Looking at vascular surgery pre-dialysis. Any and all info, even negative, will be appreciated, incl details about port, what dialyisis is is like, both during and in between sessions, etc. Thanks.
