Energy in the Morning and depression

Posted by jmsoto64 @jmsoto64, Sep 23 2:11am

I’m 4 months post surgery and still struggle in the morning with energy and focus. Additionally, I’m slipping more into depression. Anyone else have or had a similar experience and if so, how did you get better?

I got busy living and I don't say this glibly. Prior to surgery I was an active sports official, mountain biker and active in our local gym and community. I firmly believe the mind is going to focus on what is in front of it. RP in November, back on the bike by the middle of December and back on the field in February fully engaged in life. Side effects be damned. I would leak on the field and smile due to the miracle of black shorts. Went BCR 2 years later. I rode throughout my ADT and radiation which helped my mental health and controlled my weight as I don't have the best diet. Early 70's and not dead yet! 2 months post ADT I am stacking dimes on the trails getting stronger every week. I would suggest changing what you focus on, forcing yourself out of the easy chair which isn't easy and reaping the rewards of movement. Best wishes.

Hi, I had radiation and hormone therapy. I'm about 7 months into the hormones and I find it real hard to get going in the morning. The night before I lay out plans for the next day, but I typically ignore them until about noon time as that's when I start getting motivation. I still ignore many things I should be doing that I wouldn't have ignored before my treatment started.
I typically don't get depressed but have days where I feel a little sorry for myself, but that is typically short lived.
Doing stuff helps! The last few days I have been working on an old airplane of mine and I submerge myself in that and the rest of the world goes away for a while and I'm back in my element.
Just got to plug along and wait for the days when I start feeling normal again after the hormones are completed. BTW, I would take this any day for what could be happening. I'm thankful for that.

It’s good to know I’m not alone. Thank you.

NO! You're not alone on this journey. Since joining this group about 2 months ago, I've learned a LOT on what others are going through and help on my journey. As for the depression, my doc basically said I needed to go on anti-depressant meds. It really did make a huge difference in how I perceive things now. Radiation for me wasn't bad at all. My advice? Stay active!!! Walk as much as possible. Do light weights. Eat well. And SMILE!!! You got this!

I thought I was the only one struggling with depression and lack of energy. I recently started drinking a glass of "electrolytes" in the morning. I was using Gatorade and Powerade, but moved up to an online formula that didn't have any harmful ingredients in it. This seems to help crank me up and get me going. I take a lot of other stuff as well. Age has a lot to do with it.

Thank you, I will try. We have liquid IV and never even thought of it. I will try it.

If that doesn’t help, you may also try getting a powder online to mix with water that consists of Arginine and Citruline. Those are used by high-performance athletes to expand blood vessels for increased blood flow.
Good diet, cut alcohol, walk when you can, don’t read the newspaper, find a few friends to have breakfast with a couple times a month, get a good pillow, start a hobby. Let us know your progress. It takes a while, but you’re on your way. Yay!

Thank you for the "prodding;" I just wrote my oncologist regarding a counseling referral. I haven't had surgery but am in my ninth month of Orgovyx and had radiation treatments during February-April. I exercise daily but seem to be having increasing fatigue and, unfortunately, chronic diarrhea that wakes me up at night or keeps me close to a bathroom during the day. I don't know how patients work full-time during treatment and am very glad to be retired. Some days I am so tired that I want to go to sleep and it'd be perfectly fine not to wake up. Then, I get up the next morning to a better day. My wife is an angel and is really focused on my recovery. I suppose we'll get through this!

I had my surgery August 13th, I am happy to say that I have done pretty good controlling my bladder but have been too focused on the elephant in the room, ED. I know that this will take time but it seems that now all of these crazy ED treatments have come out of the woodwork. Yes i pretty much ignore them but i still have them in the back of my mind. I think it’s time to return to an exercise program and just not think about it. Thanks for the push guys
