Anyone used prolia?

I am 82. Terrible bone density. Prolia is expensive. Anyone been told how many injections make a difference?
Am questioning if it is worth the money.

This is very important to know! A lot of health professionals either don’t know this or don’t mention it. The rebound happened to me, even on going to an oral bisphosphenate after 2+ years of Prolia. That was not strong enough to counteract rebound. 3 vertebral fractures to prove…

Osteoporosis has become very complicated to treat I have found. I’m 55 and have recently moved from osteopenia to osteoporosis (likely because of a catastrophic injury when I was 17 requiring 6 months of traction and bed rest along with extremely high doses of steroids). I live in Annapolis, with many endocrinologists that specialize in osteoporosis. Despite this, I am choosing to go to the John’s Hopkins osteoporosis center. Studies seem to be changing the algorithms quickly, I want to be very sure I am getting the best recs out there.

Thank you @gently for your excellent explanation about the dangers of Prolia. Do you know if there is a study that would show us the percentage of people who have mild side effects versus those with severe side effects? I wish they would include those in the pamphlets that come with the meds.

I took 2 injections of Prolia with no side effects. I took it after one year of Evenity. I didn’t have any gains and now I am on Reclast and no side effects either.

I had looked at their program briefly. I live in NC but I am traveling to Baltimore for another procedure. Is there someone you can recommend if I decide to try one of their endocrinologists. Thanks. And please share your experiences there if you are willing.

I had my first injection in June and Medicare covered it. I’m on Original Medicare so not sure about MA

I’ve come to the end of my 10 years on Prolia. (Which I was never told there was an end) I was also never told that you can never stop taking these drugs once started. I personally have never had any side effects of Prolia, I handled it well. They switched me to an IV infusion of RECLAST. I received my first dose last Thursday at 1:30. Around 10:pm, I started feeling unwell. Very achy. Then headache, chills, nausea, sweating and extreme joint pain. Thigh pain. The heat coming off of my thighs was something I never experienced before. Every bone and joint in my body hurt. My legs felt like heavy concrete. Symptoms continues, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Monday I started feeling relief , Tuesday a little better and today, Wednesday, I’m feeling pretty much my ole self.
That was rough! There must be a way to WEAN OFF this stuff. All of it.
Any suggestion?

dpmb, you've gone off Prolia in the most proven way. Some people continue to have aching in their joints for the entire year. I hope your suffering is over for the year. One injection of Reclast is sometimes effective for two years. You'd need the bone marker CTX to be safe. Usually patients lose bone on Reclast after Prolia. but sometime the gains on Prolia are so large that its ok. In a year, when you've forgotten all about the first few days of Reclast and are deciding on whether to take the second injection, ask about a slow infusion, maybe an hour.
It is said that the second infusion isn't as hard as the first, but if your kidneys have more time to process the medication, you and your kidneys will be better off.

@gravity3 Duke would likely have an excellent program closer to home, but I don’t know

I suffer from Meneires and had a terrible reaction to Prolia. 8 days of vertigo. My ENT put me prednisone to ease the vertigo. My Endocronologist, who prescribed Prolia, told me to wait it out, it will get better. Not so.
