Long term side effects of Evenity

Posted by polite @polite, Aug 31, 2023

My Bone Specialist Prescribed and My Insurance Co. approved Evenity. Would like more information on long term side effects and results; to help me decide on Evenity vs. Tymlos or Forteo. Many thanks in advance .

This blog has given me encouragement just for the fact that others have struggled or are struggling with their diagnosis and/or treatment.
My doctor has recommended that I start taking evenity. I am still not sure what way to go but I know I need to take something as my t scores are very low. My mother had osteoporosis and suffered rib fractures and a broken hip in her later years. Also, she became very crippled and I want to avoid any of that if at all possible. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance.

I’m in your same predicament. I’m 62 with score of -3.5. Doc prescribed Forteo and I had an allergic reaction to it which he said I was the first one in his 20 years of practice. He has now prescribed Evenity but I haven’t started yet. I’m very scared of another reaction. I also have hypertension and on meds for this. Scared of the cardiac risks with Evenity. Anyone out there who took Evenity with hypertension?

Anyone have hypertension and do Evenity? I’m on meds for hypertension and I was allergic to Forteo and doc now wants to try Evenity. I’m very scared because of the cardiac risks.

Yes, I have hypertension and completed 22 months of evenity one year ago with great results. I have also taken several other bone meds. No side effects from any. I am 77. I believe that that 15 year difference may make a significant difference in how we may each view medication for op.

Sorry. One year. Not 22 months.

Happy you are having good results but I thought Evenity is only FDA approved for 12 months

12 months not 22.

I began Evenity injections August 2025. Not too many issues until November 2025 after 4th one. Muscle spasms in lower back that are getting worse. December one is due next week. After dealing with this for almost a month I am tempted to stop treatment. Dr wants me to continue, though. I cannot deal with these side effects (seem to be getting worse) for 7 more months and certainly not if they never go away. Bone scan shows my post menopausal bones are not good.

ess, at 4 months you have gotten the highest, best gains from Evenity. The back spasms are thought to be caused by low calcium with Evenity use. You might try increasing calcium and D3 intake. If the spasms don't abate, ask your doctor which medication they prescribe after Evenity. Maybe they'd agree to Forteo or Tymlos drugs which seem to be holding gains (though there are no clinical trials), otherwise a bisphosphonate.
Are your calcium levels being monitored.
I don't think you should tolerate the spasms.
Evenity uses the calcium quickly due to the rapidity with which it builds modeled bone.
