Colorectal cancer stage 3 with 1 cancerous lymph node out of 17.
Is there anyone who opted out chemotherapy and doing fasting/vegan diet?
Thank you!

I am a 3B rectal cancer survivor.I took pre op xeloda and Radiotherapy which was followed by Descending colon J loop anastomosis to anal canal.I was advised Six courses of postoperative chemo based on the initial diagnosis withPET scan.My postoperative pathology showed no lymph node involvement.I decided not to take the chemo as I valued my quality of life over quantity of life.It is eight years since diagnosis in 2017 .Fortunately I am in remission.
Though I was a vegetarian to begin with I turned vegan and I am on very high fibre diet. The only hassle is,fragmentation and frequency of stools due to J loop.A small price to pay for a healthy life at 73 years.I am the soul caretaker for my 90 year old mother who is bed ridden.

Hello @premi and welcome to Mayo Connect. I am glad to hear that you are doing well after your surgery and that you have been in remission. Was the change to a vegan eating plan a difficult adjustment for you?

No it was pretty easy as I was already a vegetarian and I had to give up only dairy.Reading up on many integrative treatment groups motivated me a lot.

Thank you.Definitely HE gave me a new lease of life.I was a full time practising Ob Gyn. Giving up active practice was also the will of God as he knew I should be available full time to take care of my mother

Diet is a critical component in health, no question… but be careful of it as the sole ‘’cure’’.., especially if cancer is a high stage with mets . There are some great stories about different diets- just go forward with great care !
