Lupron side effects a year after one injection
I’m experiencing whole body hot flashes a full year after receiving a Lupron 6 ( supposedly) month shot a year ago this past August ,about a month or two before my radiation therapy last fall.
Has anyone experienced a similar side effect?

The problem is your testosterone is not Recovering. Have you had your testosterone checked? It’s a simple test they do for me every month.. My brother had radiation and was on Lupron for about a year. His hot flashes continued for about nine months after he stopped Lupron. He was 75 and the older you are the longer it takes for testosterone to come back for many people.
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the info, much appreciated , I think my testosterone is very low but the folks I’m working with don’t do monthly tests. I also think I might have been given a longer lasting Lupron shot than the 6 month shot they told me it was.

Actually, the six month shot is the maximum shot you can get of Lupron.
Getting your testosterone back could be so variable, One person gets it back in a couple of months because they were on Orgovyx. Another person takes a year to a year and a half, And there’s no logical reason, but that’s just what it takes. I know some people who have gotten annoyed and had testosterone injections to speed it up. That can be real risky, and many doctors don’t want to do it.
Give it a little more time, Keep track what the test results are showing, Maybe it Shows it is coming back it’s just not as fast as desired.
There is no Lupron shot with a longer duration than six months.
What’s your testosterone now that you ve been on duralutamide for awhile? I m waiting for mine to get up more so I ll be more energetic in the afternoon time. Was 20 two months ago.
I am on Orgovyx And Darolutamide. I did stop Orgovyx For six months, and my testosterone started rising too quickly. My oncologist wanted me to go right back on it. I have BRCA2 and if I even reduce my main medicine, my PSA will rise very quickly. When I was on Zytiga, I reduced my dosage from 1000 mg to 750 mg and in 18 days my PSA went from .2 to 1.
I’ve now been on ADT for almost 9 years.
well, you didnt answer my question....i can guess if your on orgovyx and darolutamide your testosterone is about 12ng/dl. your living with lots of side effects then ....that low. thanks for your info anyway. lol
My testosterone is below five. You would have no idea I have prostate cancer and that I am on ADT if you met me. Some more information.
I’ve never had fatigue from taking ADT. For the first five years, I didn’t exercise at all. I’ve always been thin. I did get a little bit of a belly, but not much.. I never gained weight. I did have to take bone straighteners, Fosamax once a week for the first six years and now I am on a Zometa infusions I get them every three months. I got osteoarthritis while I was on it. No one else in my family has gotten that. Had to replace two knees and a hip. I was able to avoid replacing the second hip by doing a lot of work in the gym. Doing gym work also resolved a problem with my left shoulder, which has torn tendons. I can now sleep on it which I could not for a long time without pain. If you saw me run around the track at 77 you would not believe I had all those things done.
Starting about four years ago, I go to the track across the street and walk a mile in the morning and the afternoon every day, At least 14 miles a week. I also try to get to the gym three days a week, some weeks I don’t quite make it But I have greatly increased my muscle strength after doing that for the last year and a half.
People have no idea I have had prostate cancer for 15 years and that I’ve been on ADT for almost 9. The only visible side effect is hot flashes, But they have become less frequent. I do have fans in a couple of different places in case I get hot, and I wear an Embrlabs.com wave2 device Which reduces hot flash intensity and it pretty much stops them at night.
Exercise makes a major difference in fatigue from ADT. Pushing through exercise actually causes you to have less fatigue, if that is a problem you have from it. As long as I drink some electrolytes, I can run around the 1/4 mile track without stopping three times, I slow my run at times, but speed up as well. Another quarter mile to and from house.
So yes, you can appear normal on ADT.
12 years ago, Before I had salvage radiation, they gave me a six-month Lupron shot. At the time, I didn’t know what it was and it had absolutely no side effects as far as I was concerned.
If you are on Orgovyx Your testosterone does come back a lot quicker, If you need ADT try to get that.
You can always self-order a testosterone test. In our area CompuNet offers them for $40.
I did that on one occasion. (I recall telling my wife (in late January 2022), that I thought the Eligard was wearing off because I was beginning to lift heavier weights at the gym. Since I wasn’t due for another “official” bloodwork for another couple of months, I self-ordered another PSA & testosterone test (out of curiosity), and those came back as 0.13 & 403.0, respectively - meaning that everything was going exactly as expected (that is, testosterone increasing on schedule & PSA staying low).

Hi Brian,
That is really good information for me - new and informative - I really appreciate it since my next scheduled blood work with my oncologist isn’t until January.
Best, Paul
