neuropathy and foot drop

Have anyone experienced neuropathy and foot drop at the same time? The doctors have ran every test imaginable. They still cannot identify what is causing these two issues. They now wants to do a nerve and muscle Biopsy to help Identify the problem? If you had the nerve and muscle Biopsy, was it beneficial to help identify your problem?

First diagnosed with PN around 2015, series of MRI's in 2015, 2017 and 2019 with various EMG tests over the years. Finally, Mayo diagnosis was idiopathic sensory motor PN. In 2019 started to develop drop foot. Mayo suggested ankle foot orthotics. Since 2020 been wearing Ottobock AFO's, WalkOn Flex which helps with drop foot and provides improved balance. They go on in the morning and off at night eliminate tripping and falling flat on my face. Went thru my physical therapist who contacted my primary physician, script written, insurance covered cost.

I did. For 2 years. I have lots of nerve studies. I was low on Vit D. They used some steroids. I was told it was non diabetic lumbar sacral radiculoplexy neuropathy. It was suggested to get a lumbar puncture to check but I never did. After 2 years I had about 95 percent recovery! Now 15 years later I am having some weakness in my leg again. :/

Hello jhill, I had a nerve biopsy as part of the procedure in the diagnosis of CIDP. the pathology report was positive for demyelination of the nerve axons. There was pain involved after and I was fully aware that would be the case. Both my feet have dropped and I now use braces that lift my toes, these help me to walk more normally. If you go ahead with the biopsy have good talk to the Surgeon, I hope I have been of assistance and best wishes to you Rob396

Are you saying the biopsy caused the foot drop? Was the biopsy what's called a skin punch? Thanks.

No, I haven’t had the biopsy.
The doctors wants me to have a biopsy to help identify what’s causing the neuropathy and foot drop.

Hello @hoch, the foot drop was from the CIDP . A nerve biopsy entailed taking a section of the sucral nerve behind the ankle bone for pathology to determine if there is demyelination of the nerve axons. In my case the result was positive. This was just one of several tests needed for the diagnosis of CIDP. rob39
