@johnbishop Thank you for your reply. I am pleased to hear you've had your surgery and this has helped. Unfortunately I have another couple of months until I can be scheduled for surgery. I thought as mine is direct inguinal hernia there was less chance affecting the scrotum? It's a dull ache but sometimes makes it difficult to walk before feeling tender. Lying down can help but I wondered if you noticed your diet being a contributing factor?

The GP seems to believe unless its strangulated it doesn't warrant immediate medical attention and can be managed with ice pain medication etc.

@beat16 I think diet can aggravate the symptoms. My biggest disagreement with my surgeons and care team at Mayo was one surgeon wanted to do two separate surgeries, one for each side instead of a bilateral open surgery at one time. Both were going to be open surgeries and require recovery time and I really didn't want to go through it twice so was happy with the lead surgeon agreed to a bilateral inguinal hernia surgery.

I can't remember exactly what I was told for eating after the surgery but I think it's similar to what is in this article. I do remember trying to drink a lot more water than I usually do.
