Zometa: Does anyone have tips they can share with me?
I will be getting my first dose of Zometa next Wednesday for my osteoporosis and prevention of bone metastasis. Does anyone have tips they can share with me? Thank you!

The first time you may feel almost like u have a mild flu but after that I didn't have anything. Drinking water before infusion helps as well.
I had Zometa infusions for 3 years and am glad I did. No problems at all just low temp and chills after the first one.
Hugs and well wishes.
My doctor had them add extra hydration to the drip plus they give me Tylenol as the drip starts. (It takes a long time for the infusion due to the extra hydration). I have had no side effects. Good luck to you!
My first was 30 minutes, the second was 1 hour. I had to have clearance from my dentist prior to first infusion and if any work needed to have it done before Zometa. Good luck with yours, each persons experience is unique.
I should have conferred with my dentist before taking the Zometa as my teeth are now all crooked and look terrible!! It hurts when they start moving!
Hi I have had my 9TH ZOMETA infusion in June 2025 for osteoporosis. You usually get 5 treatments then have a drug holiday of 3 years after which you are re-evaluated to see if you need further infusions. Unfortunately I had to continue with the infusions without the drug holiday. I had joined a support group before my first treatment and got valuable information from them. The most important thing was HYDRATE. The day before, the day of and the day after. At least 2litres of water each day.
BEFORE THE INFUSION.
TRAMADOL 50Mg
PARACETAMOL X 2
ANTI-NAUSEA TABLET
AN ANTI-INFLAMATORY TABLET.
AFTER THE INFUSION
Repeat above treatment before going to bed, and daily for the next two days.
This was prescribed by my professor. I still got side effects but not as severe. Severe muscle pain, joint pain, typically all the flu symptoms. I didn't take the precautions one year and the side effects were so bad I thought I was going to die. One more to go and then we will see. Strongs everyone
I was told to get all dental work done before commencing Zometa. Fortunately I did, but got a broken tooth beginning of this year and the dentist wouldn't touch me without a letter from the professor. He refused and I had to be seen by a maxilla facial specialist and even they were very wary of working on the jaw for fear that the jawbone might break.
My doctor ordered extra fluid in the drip and Tylenol (which the center gives me). I had this each time and have had no reaction afterwards. I needed a note from my dentist to even start the treatment. Good luck to you. We all wish you well
It sounds like you got good care and the right things to do. When I went thru if we were told to hydrate that's all. The first one was difficult I felt like I had the flu, after that no problem.
It is all worth it to help with strong bones and they say some protection from bone reoccurrence.
Hugs to all.
