Osteoporosis treatment or strontium citrate?
Is reclast a safe treatment for osteoporosis I have not done anything so far except strontium citrate?
***Director's Note:***
There’s not enough research to know if strontium fights osteoporosis. Also, the FDA doesn’t regulate supplements in the same way as prescription drugs, so it's not possible to know if if they are safe or work well or even how much of the main ingredient they contain.
If you want to take a strontium supplement, it is recommended to ask your doctor first.

I've been taking for a month. So far so good. I have spinal score of -3.5. Tried AlgaeCal for 6 months and my score went from -3.2 to -3.5 along with all other scores lowering. I was so upset. I'm an avid exerciser, 62 and of normal weight and eat almost a mediterranean diet. No luck. So I stopped the AlgaeCal. I had my husband inject me for a week and then I did myself. It's not hard but it is a mindset. Good luck!

4 ReactionsI'm with you, do I bought a Marodyne unit for body vibration. I also had a REMS Scan done to look at bone quality. I track my calcium and protein intake each day. I take MK4 ,as per Japanese study of postmenuposal women and D along with Fortibone. You can look at all of these on PubMed. Weight training and walking, along with heel drops are mandatory each day. Hope this helps.

3 ReactionsYou have to watch out for the docs. When they say 1200mg calcium a day they usually just lea e it at that. What they mean, or should mean, get most of those mgs from food. No more than 500mg of a calcium supplement, if any. The problem is that calcium from the supplement goes to your blood not your bones, thereby not helping the bones but increasing the risk of arterial plague. Sheep or goat cheese, kefir/yoqurt, greens, mk7 - 180 mcg, and weight lifting (very important). There's more but these will put you on the path.

5 ReactionsThat really isn't true. Vitamins D3 and K2 help calcium get to the right place. Yes, from diet is better, but a calcium supplement as part of an overall diet is ok.

I have also done REMS recently, but the doctor only gave me T values for spine and hips.
Should I request specifically to evaluate bone quality? What kind of data you received?
You should have received a full written report along with graphics to show you where your bone quality is for your hips and femur.
Oh wow, you hit on two subjects that I have experience with. I did take Strontium with AlgaeCal probably about six years ago - it did not help me enough. However, I was taking AlgaeCal Plus prior to that and have still continued with that product even with the various osteoporosis meds that I took. I have taken a number of osteoporosis meds, many with difficulty. Most recently, I had a Reclast infusion, after having been on Prolia which I did well with but my endocrinologist didn't feel I should go more than five years on that. Anyway, I did terrible on the Reclast infusion. I did get the flu like symptoms for maybe 48 hours, but the pain continued for days in my back, hip and the only thing that helped was 15 mg of Meloxicam. I also had ankle swelling that since has diminished but it took probably 2 weeks for that to go away or 3?? I now started with pain in my back, hip on the right side where it was on the left a few weeks back - back to the antiinflammatory - Meloxicam at the higher 15 mg dose. I did terrible with the medicine and will find out what my doctor next prescribes as I do not want the Reclast again, at least not as the 5 mg infusion.

2 ReactionsDid you get your money back from AlgaeCal? They guarantee an improvement at 6 months and if you started their product s within the 30 days of a Dexa scan you can put a claim in. I’ve been taking Fortibone only for over a year and my numbers have not improved . I’m about to start the package but my dexascan was a month out of the guarantee range. Now I either have to wait till spring or just forget about the guarantee Clause!
