Advice on generic cymbalta needed…

Posted by annitab63 @annitab63, Jul 25 10:29am

I have been on the name brand of Cymbalta for 17 years. When the generic first came out my insurance dictated that I use it. I usually have no issues with using generic meds. Switching to duloxetine was a terrible experience. It was like I had stopped Cymbalta cold turkey. The pharmacist told me to only use name brand and that’s what I did. Now, I have no choice but switch.
IS THERE ANYONE WHO HAS SWITCHED FROM NAME BRAND TO A SPECIFIC GENERIC BRAND WITH SUCCESS?
The list of US generic brands is huge and I would like some suggestions as to which brand to start with. Thanks.

I had the exact same issue; the brand only (Cymbalta) is what works for me. I tried generic once and it was horrible. I learned from online research (later confirmed by my pharmacist), generic medications don’t have to be exactly the stated dose…there is a dosage range that is allowed. For example, if you require 30mg of Cymbalta but the generic contains 29mg of the drug…you may feel the difference, but it is within the allowable FDA range.

I am very sensitive to the dosage. 1mg makes a big difference in my world.

I think generics are required to be within 10% of states potency.

I just learned today that Cymbalta has been discontinued. I'm devastated. Generic doesn't work for me. I've tried many different brands, and even upped the dosage in hopes that it would work, but it just doesn't. Has anyone tried doing a twice daily dosage instead of once a day? Thought I read somewhere that it's an issue with the delivery system of the generic. The inert ingredients don't have to be the same, but the intert ingredients are part of the drug delivery. For someone who's never had the brand, it's probably not noticeable, but for those of us who take it long term, it is. Ive been on this drug for more than 16 years. I feel utter terror for myself. Not only for the withdrawal thats sure to come, and also because my brain functions as it should with it, and anything else just makes me feel like a different person. A broken person....

Fill out a FDA 3500B form on the FDA.gov website if you have trouble with generic duloxetine. I have filled out 3 times for Lupin, Sun and Ajanta - simply not effective. Breckenridge has been a good generic for me but it is hard to get..

@kgenoa Lupin Duloxetine is not a good drug. I just finished reporting to FDA via their website and cotacted my pharmacy requesting they order manufacturer Torrent version of Duloxetine. (generic for Cymbalta)
