I do speak to my son via Teams once a week. If necessary I am able to call him on the telephone. I have a land line and for a fixed monthly fee I have 300 minutes to call anywhere in the world.
No, I do not have a pet. Simply put, I do not have the financial resources for veterinarian fees and pet foods. Like most people I live on a budget so I am careful to stay within this budget as I do not wish to get into debt.

Turn the TV off and listen to whatever kind of music that you enjoy. We all have NO say in what's going on around the globe, or can have any effects on anything other than our own lives.
Politics has become a religion now, and you're either on their side or you're not worthy of living. I listen to music for several hours a day, it helps me deal with my depression, as well as the chronic pain from osteoarthritis and neuropathy.
It's good that you don't go into debt unless something essential breaks that is a huge expense like an air conditioning/heating system which I just replaced. However, after two months I was able to pay it off. They still tried to charge me a large interest charge even after it was paid off! I got them to take that off. But I had to be firm.
Watching what you enjoy or listening to music you like is very good. We may not always agree as to what we like but if you enjoy it or it makes you happy that's all that matters.
😸 Cats ARE cool. I lost mine to tongue cancer of all things. I'm trying to decide if I should get another. I just don't want to leave this earth with them being alone. My family all are dog lovers....I miss Atticus
I'm lonely although my husband is living and we still have a much-reduced social life. He's feeling better right now but has A-fib and when he has a spell of that he sleeps sometimes 18 hours a day. We both have physical challenges. We have no family except distant cousins.
We don't really have a senior center but can pay a small fee to use the beautiful new one in a nearby town. They have a walking track , pickle ball and a gym among other activities. The city also sponsors monthly excursions for seniors ($10 plus lunch cost) to have lunch and shop in the local shops and boutiques in nearby towns. Our library has ladies' coffee on Wednesday at 10am and men's coffee on Friday at 10am. They also have senior exercise classes, several book clubs, puzzle groups, adult coloring, chess and cribbage for a few activities. The Methodist church has ladies coffee Tuesdays at 10am, all welcome church member or not and almost no religious subjects are discussed. A former college classmate in Florida found opportunities with the State's conservation department to work with visitors at a wildlife refuge. There are many opportunities but you have to look for them. I am fortunate to have a serviceable vehicle to go where I want but have been given rides by ladies from the church group and the library group. AARP may be able to provide suggestions. My husband and I are both Veterans and help with activities to help Vets. Getting involved with ANYTHING positive improves your mental health. I'm investigating the different online classes for seniors. We watch 1 local newscast a day and the rest of the TV we watch is mostly PBS or National Geographic. My husband is watching a David Attenborough program as I write this. As little of the negative stuff (24 hour news channels) as possible. Good luck to all. I hear you and wish you the best. Getting old is tough!
On the 27th of this month I will be 91. I find it hard to believe. My husband died four years ago. We were together for 62 years. I have 2 sons, but only a relationship with one of them. He lives very far from me. Thankfully we can communicate in real time thanks to the computer. Other than that I have no support system. I am not particularly social so have very few friends. Actually more like friendly acquaintances. I spend days on end alone with only myself to talk to. I have had therapy and decided to start it again. I am fortunate to be healthy. I am able to take care of myself, drive, cook, do laundry, etc. But this is not all of what life is and I miss the other part. Also due to my great age all my peers are gone.
You are doing great! My father was in as similar situation. He lived alone on the farm and still did some farm work at 93. The neighbor who rented the other farm kind of kept an eye on him. He had no immediate family but me and a nephew and we both lived over 100 miles away. He also did his own laundry and some house work although he had a cleaning lady. Keep hanging in there!

Tongue cancer in a cat? I've never heard anything like that in my entire life of having cats. I've had to experience the loss of a kitty due to feline leukemia several times, but never any kind of cancer. I'm sorry for your loss, losing a constant companion and entertainment system after years of being together can be heart breaking.
When my last cat Molly, a large grey striped tabby died, it was only a week after my older sister had died of a massive infection in August of 2020. It was devastating, and I almost lost it completely. They're a part of our families, and we mourn their loss just as much as our human relatives.
I think you need to go to your local humane society and adopt an adult female kitty. They can always take her back if/when something happens to you down the road. That kind of companionship is too special to just give up.

Got you!
I learnt the hard way to not get into debt.
I sometimes play Jimmy Kimmel or other late night shows or something on YouTube whenever I feel lonely. Do you watch TV or listen to Music?
I watch to much TV. World news.

I find that meditation and mindfulness can also transform the moment, as Buddhism apparently does too!

It sounds like you are on the right track!
