Have you considered an allergic reaction? Maybe to a chemical from the operation or skin treatment that you used to help the skin. I had an allergic reaction to some chemical used during my partial knee replacement. For me I had swelling, redness, pain and a little itching. The surgeon said the reaction was in the shape of an iodine soaked drape that was used in surgery. I was prescribed prednisone which worked. I am scheduled for chemical allergy testing in about a week. I hope to find out more.

This is precisely what I experienced. My first partial knee replacement 2.5 years ago I noticed no such reaction. The next knee I had done, partially, like the first one, I would experience extreme itching and red bumps right after I retired for the evening. And right after surgery I did notice some serum filled vesicles alongside the incision as well. These were deemed to be an allergic reaction to perhaps the adhesive. The post-surgery doc in charge said to try the cortisone cream he prescribed, which I did. Maybe helped a little. The doc also said that if I ever have another surgery that I should mention this because it could even react more severely "next time" however now with both knees "done & fixed" I hope no more surgeries. The partial knee replacement turned out very well for me, BTW.
