Suddenly painless... for the moment!

Posted by joybo99 @joybo99, Sep 2, 2025

You know how sometimes when you move "funny," you can throw your back out...?
Or maybe you stub your toe on [whatever] and you get that brief moment of Damnnnn!
I have come to enjoy the REVERSE of those moments: Having sudden awareness each day when *nothing* hurts at all! It's quick but wonderful--maybe 10 times throughout the day.
I'm always happy to count my blessings.
(As I await a return call from my provider to address these issues.)

I would love to visit a doctor, be checked over, and have him/her tell me that "I'm not sure what you have, but I'm going to do some research, and, if necessary, reach out to my fellow docs in order to get to the bottom of what's going on in your body. I will not leave you in the lurch.

It takes so little foreign material in the human body to cause problems. Everyone’s had a sliver? I had one on the tip of my pointer finger. Nasty spot, as we use that damn finger so much. Every time I used the hand, OUCH. I finally did some self-surgery as one cannot just go to doctor for this. You couldn’t even see it, it was so small. I set up my iPad with magnification and went to work with a sewing needle. I used Icy Hot spray to numb it a bit to make the digging easier. It went straight in so very little showed. Well, I got it out and I was amazed at how tiny it was. Relief! Ok, why I tell this story is that my implant in my hip is pretty big. The body doesn’t like it. Others have plates and screws etc. But we won’t be just digging that stuff out, it’s for keeps. It goes into the box with us generally. But it’s up to us to deal with it and that’s the thing.

I love those moments. I overdid the past two weeks, so today was not one of the good ones, pretty much a couch potato day other than piles of neglected paperwork.

Same! I had to chuckle…,
“ the piles of neglected paperwork “
My paperwork seems it may be as numerous as yours 🙂 I can’t figure out why? My pain is forcing me to be a couch potato…..why not a chair potato, and work on getting the piles reduced!

Be CAREFUL of OIH-
Opioid Induced Hyperalgesia

It’s where wires get switched and opioids make pain 100x worse not better.

7 weeks on hydrocodone before it happened to me. Now I would set myself on fire before risking that agony again

That is very interesting.
I have a ruptured disc and scoliosis. My pain medication is Hydrocodone, taken as needed or 3 times daily. It has given me relief, sleeping and normal daytime activities, for more than 10 years problem free. That only proves there is no one answer for everyone.

Had a plate and 8screws put in my wrist 2.5 months ago…

NSAIDs have spiked liver and kidney enzymes so that’s out.

Had reaction to hydrocodone in which everything was agony not relief.

Now I wake up 5-6 times a night in pain, breathe mindfully and sleep another hour or so.

Help! Any suggestions?

Have you tried CBD tincture? I use CBD with THC. There are different % of THC.
Maybe you could try the tincture with a small % of THC.

Hello to all!!
I'm 81-years-young and at last count a recipient of 28 surgeries, including 13 low back, 1 cervical, 8 rotator cuffs, 1 reverse right shoulder, 2 lung, 1 finger, 1 toe and 1 nose, to name a few that I remember. Also, I have 37-degree scoliosis. My most recent surgery was October 2023, diagnosed with a cyst at the base of my spine. This surgery was the most painful due to all old metal had to be removed and replaced with new metal at L5 to L1 adding an additional fusion. Since my last surgery, I have had continued pain at levels between 8 and 10 in my low back and right leg. Pain Management" injections can provide good relief if the injection can be in the right "Sweet Spot". I recently had 3 injections, and all have failed. I'm supported by my WONDERFUL BRIDE of 53 years who has been my nurse since the beginning of 1975. I can't tolerate pain meds except in a hospital environment. Over the counter Aleve and others are no help. I have tried the electric spine stimulation treatment, the name escapes me, also failed. I'm constantly scanning the web for any new information reference to pain management that might get me back to "somewhat" normal life. At 81 years, I have a long life ahead of me!!!! Thanks for listening. @ cobia243!!

Hydrocodone worked for me for years as it does for you.
After all the fuss over opioids & the retirement of my prescribing PCP, I was forced to switch to pain management, which thankfully was successful. I take a different med now. You're lucky to have someone still prescribing it.

Wow cobia, jusy wow!

I've had both knees replaced, one hip - and on Aug 6th just past - me left shoulder (anatomical). I've also had bunions removed on the inside of my big toes, as well as fusion of the big toes.

I don't hold a candle to you.

But I am inspired by you and your story. Thanks so much!

Joe

Some large Medical hospital staff do that.
