Testosterone in blood is measured as "free" (this is the bioavailable testosterone that affects your symptoms) and "total" (this is the total testosterone in your blood but it is bound to proteins such as sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG)). This "total" testosterone is not active and cannot cause symptoms).
To get a complete picture, blood tests include free and total testosterone as well as SHBG.
In my husband's case, total was high, free was low and SHBG was high.
Since the free testosterone was low, it was thought that his flushing was not due to a testosterone problem, which led to other investigations and his diagnosis of NET.

I only asked because I've studied testosterone a long time because mine was low after 2020, so I'm on trt, just wondered what his total was, high or low, thanks
