Hemorrhoids ...

Posted by Barb @amberpep, Feb 20, 2017

I'm sorry about such an unpleasant subject, but I didn't know where else to go with it. After I had my 3 kids, years ago, I had a problem with hemorrhoids. My doctor had me get Anusol suppositories. They worked well. Well, since I've moved down here, the last 1-1/2 years has been very rough, although I'm doing much better, and I've had several rounds of IBS ..... some with constipation and some with diahrhea. I can't find Anusol at my drug store, so I got the "usual" ... Prep. H. which seems almost worthless. The constipation makes them bleed slightly, and the diahrhea can leak at times. My doctor in Frederick told me to use Miralax and also take a probiotic, so that's what I've been doing. That seems to give me the diahrhea. I'm wondering if Metamucil might be better. Anyhow, I'm sorry to bring this icky subject up, but I'm not sure what to do anymore. I'll probably call my doctor in a few days if this doesn't straighten out. Any suggestions from anyone would be great.

I have very similar issuses going on. I ended having a colonoscopy to rule out polyps and a blockage. All they told me is that i had neither but did have several hemorrhoids that could be causing the bleeding and i also have the beginnings of diverticulitis. Told me to take miralax everyday to help with my constipation. Some days it works and some days it still takes 4 days to have a bowel movement. Stay away from ducolax. Very hard on the tummy. Hope some of this helped.

Hi tally .... gosh it's good to hear I'm not alone. I just had a colonoscopy about 4 years ago and there were some polyps removed, but they were OK. He told me I did have hemorrhoids (like I didn't know that!), and also told me to take Miralax .... he said it's more gentle than Metamucil. I was taking Miralax every morning, and it worked fairly well. But, when I began to take a probiotic (which seems to be what doctors recommend for everyone nowadays) the two of them combined gave me the diahrhea. So, this morning I took it easy on the tummy .... just a bowl of grapenut flakes and tea and the probiotic. This is becoming a real challenge to handle as I don't know what is "overdo" and what is "underdo." I'm going to the pharmacy this morning to see if they have the Anusol Supps. my Gyn originally had me get ..... they worked far better than the Prep. H. one.
Was yours originally triggered by IBS and stress. The hemorrhoids started when I had my third child, but they are now made much worse when I have a bout of IBS. Been a lot of that lately since I've moved to a place I don't like. Thank you so much for answering.

Maybe this will help--it has worked wonders for me since I have to take pain meds. For the hemorroids-take Blackstrap Molasses-not the regular kind-but Blackstrap-you may have to go to a specialty store-country store-(where I get mine) or natural remedies store. You can also google it if you have to order it. For the constipation-I use a product made by Konsyl--Orange Extra Strength Formula. It's more expensive than metamucil-but it's a lot more effective. P.S. Start with two full table spoons of Blackstrap-twice daily-you should start seeing some relief with a couple of days. For further instructions on dosages --when you google it--there will be more info--because what works for me-might not be what works for you. Anyway, I hope this works and brings you some relief--GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks Trooper ..... I actually have Blackstrap Molasses here as I use it when making gingerbread. I've never heard of the Orange Formula but I will definitely check it out. I had a bit of a surprise when I went to my local CVS. I asked if they carried Anusol, which is what I always used after my kids were born .... especially the 3rd. It was OTC. Now, they tell me it's Rx .... to me that's just another way for the Pharmaceutical Houses to charge more for the same thing. How ridiculous.

I went to my local pharmacy yesterday to see if they had Anusol. Sure they have it, but it's now a Rx. How ridiculous. It's the same thing I got over the counter after my son was born. Another way for drug companies to make more money.

I have no idea what Anusol is. The product I was talking about is--KONSYL--it's right beside the metalmusal--CVS doesn't carry it. I get mine at Rite-Aid. Good luck!

Anusol is the same type of thing as Prep. H .... comes in both a cream and suppositories. It worked really well. Well, I've been using the Prep. H. supps. for several days now and things are improving. I just have to watch this IBS.
