Degenerative scoliosis

I've been diagnosed with moderate scoliosis and osteoporosis. After decades of evista and now reclast, I'm wondering if adding HRT would help stabilize the curve. I'd welcome hearing about the experience of women who have tried HRT for this purpose or were prescripted HRT for the usual reasons. Thank you.

That's very interesting! Can I ask you what symptoms of menopause you mentioned to the gynecologist?

I still had hot flashes, vaginal dryness, trouble sleeping, and moody.

Best you visit a scoliosis specialist. Not all orthos are qualified . There is a form of scoliosis, I have it, that progressed without osteoporosis by a different mechanism. You cannot just stop it by drugs.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply. I'm feeling lost at the moment. Once the diagnosis was made there has been no help from the ortho dept other than to see a physical therapist, although no PT is available now or in the foreseeable future. My endocrinologist is familiar with osteoporosis but not scoliosis so no help there as well. I found out about the schroth method myself by looking online. I'll be traveling over an hour tomorrow hoping she will be able to help, but I'm reminding myself to keep my expectations realistic. It sounds like you don't have osteoporosis just scoliosis? If I can ask, where have you been receiving follow up care? Does this involve PT but not meds? Thanks again for reaching out!

I did have osteoporosis but now osteopenia. This is not the cause of my scoliosis; mine started at age 11. I am 83 and had an old corrective surgery in 1956 and a revision with hardware in 2002. I got my best help from National Scoliosis Foundation website. Schroth will help reduce pain and strengthen your back but not sure it’s safe with osteoporosis.
What country are you in?
