Started Repatha - Side Effects

All of the info we discover is valuable and to be weighed. I think that after DECADES of trying statins and Repatha with disastrous results each time and my doctors basically saying “you HAVE to take it” and acting like I was faking the severity of my side effects, they would read up on every possibility. Mostly, they just didn’t believe me. Statin intolerance is not that rare, yet, most doctors refuse to recognize it, or, at least, how debilitating it can be for some people.

I agree that the response of many doctors to intolerance is a big problem. I just had the conversation with my pian rehab doc this morning - it took 9 years, lots of tries at diet & exercise and several failed drugs and 5 practitioners (including 2 cardiologists) before I found one who didn't press to try "just one more statin". Fortunately, the Repatha the new doc prescribed works for me with minimal side effects that I have learned to manage. He did say he has a few other options if the side effects increase.
Since I had high LDL, coronary artery disease and a history of heart-related deaths in my family, I am trying to make this work. My LDL is down over 70%. If side effects worsen, we will do another scan of the arteries to see if the blockages have resolved and perhaps drop the med.
