I was diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy back in 2008. I started taking gabapentin in increasing doses not long after. At one point, after maybe 5 years I didn’t think it was working as well as it had at first so my neurologist suggested that I taper down the gabapentin and try Lyrica. I took one pill at bedtime and woke up a couple of hours later feeling like I wanted to jump out of my skin. I don’t know any other way to describe it, just a very anxious and agitated feeling. I decided that was the only pill I was going to take! I went back to gabapentin and have stayed on it since then. There have been other episodes where I didn’t feel that it was working as well so I gradually decrease the dosage and let my body get used to a lower dosage before I take increasing amounts.
I generally take 2400-3000mg per day, 600am, 600 noon, 600 dinner and 1200 bedtime. That’s the maximum dose I take.

I am so happy that gabapentin works for me, it has allowed me to walk whereas my feet, legs, hands and arms hurt so much without it that I couldn’t tolerate the sheets touching me at night.
Every person’s body is different and many have had success with lyrica. In my case it just didn’t work out.
