Yes ... but the pain actually started 30 years ago ... roughly 1995 as I recall. I had another autoimmune condition called reactive arthritis which was diagnosed about 15 years prior to PMR. Another condition called uveitis is associated with reactive arthritis. Autoimmune uveitis can cause vision loss too.

I was very adept at taking 60-100 mg of Prednisone for every flare of uveitis which recurred once or twice per year. I lost count when the number of uveitis flares reached 30. The difference was I could easily achieve remission with a high dose of Prednisone followed by a fast taper in a month or two.. Tapering off Prednisone again was never a problem for me until PMR was diagnosed. That was when I wasn't able to taper off Prednisone for 12 years.

The pain wasn't constant if I took enough Prednisone. It wasn't always PMR that flared up. When you have multiple autoimmune conditions any one or all of the conditions can flare whenever they want to.

Chronic systemic inflammation wasn't good. That would cause other conditions that weren't autoimmune disorders to flare up.
