foley catheter very uncomfortable
My husband had a foley catheter inserted 1 week ago in the ER. He had prostate surgery about 20 years ago and as a result was incontinent. He used a clamp which seemed to cause an ulcer hence the catheter. Any tips from anyone on how to make it more comfortable? He sees the urologist in 2 days- has blood in the urine and penis tip is irritated and a little blood comes out. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am wondering if an Intermittent Catheter might be less uncomfortable than a Foley. My husband has had 12 days of the Foley and it still really bothers him. Anyone else go from Foley to Intermittent and is it much more comfortable? He is really suffering with this Foley and will need a catheter for at least several more weeks. I dont see how he can go on much longer with the Foley. Thanks everyone for your help.
It's 1000 times more comfortable. I've been self-cathing since my foley came out in March. But again, what's the purpose of the catheter placement? Additionally, I don't have to deal with incontinence or any leakage at all. I just can't void without a catheter due to restriction cause by the cancer. I, and my medical team, are hoping that resolves with IMRT coming up in a few weeks.
Thank u for your reply. Glad to hear it is more comfortable. Good luck with your IMRT - what exactly is that?
You're welcome. IMRT = intensity modulated radiation therapy
