Dear Cyndi2013: Yes, I also have recurring pain on the outside of the knee following knee replacement surgery. I wish I knew the cause. I have looked into iliotibial band syndrome, but the pain is just below the knee joint, so that's not it. The peroneal nerve runs over that area and I have been having some numbness on the front of the knee, which is an indication of peroneal nerve injury. Do you also have numbness? But mine comes and goes. There isn't anything consistent but the discomfort, stiffness and swelling. Mine gets worse when I lean on that leg...any kind of pressure sets it off. Rest seems to be the only cure. I lost some weight recently and that helps. I don't know if any of this matches what you are experiencing, but please let us know on Mayo Connect if you figure out what it is and how to deal with it! It's been a year for me. Very frustrating. I tried shockwave, which helped. However it flared up again a few weeks later. Do I am stumped.
