I was diagnosed with PMR in January and have tapered down to 3 mg/day. I'm beginning to feel a little better, thankfully, however ever since I've been on prednisone, my hair has started thinning out and I'm losing some hair every day. I had heard about Biotin (100mg/day) could help. Has anyone had this problem and if so, have they considered Biotin and if it's safe to take? I would ask my rheumatologist however I can't get into see him until perhaps the end of the year!! There's a long, long waiting list!

I was wondering the same about biotin

My hair doesn’t seem to be growing!! But I do take biotin. It really helped before my PMR. I notice hair & nails not growing like they did. But I’m taking it anyway.

My hair has definitely thinned and has been falling out a little at a time. I use a biotin shampoo and conditioner and it makes for shiny hair—not straw-like at all. But it’s so thin and fine! I have an appointment with a dermatologist to check out a crusty little bump on the top of my head. 🤞

@allinge I have taken Biotin for years. Works great. Strengthens nails too. I did a 5 day run of prednisone and my hair loss kicked in again. I know it's a slow regrowth. Your hair is a barometer for your heath. I am not a fan of prednisone, it has too many side effects for an autoimmune compromised person.

@allinge My rheumatologist recommended taking Hair, Skin and Nails vitamins by Nature’s Bounty for hair loss and thinning skin. This has helped quite a bit with the hair loss and strengthening my nails; however, hair thinness and texture remain problematic as does thin, fragile skin on my forearms.
