I am on Forteo for 3 weeks now. Side effects: lower energy, joints ache, radiating pain, headaches, difficulty sleeping and sometime upset GI. All of the above are unpleasant but not extremely acute. I learn to live with them. I was on Prolia for many years but I had to change to Forteo because of dental work. I had very bad reactions (much worse than Forteo) when I took Bisphosphonates. Reclast is in the same family as Bisphosphonates. So I refused to try it. Once my dental implant is complete, I think I will go back to Prolia. I am adding strength exercise, and increase calcium and protein in my diet.

We don't all have the same results.
I have been taking Forteo for about 4 years.
I will say that IMO taking the bisphosphonates when you stop Forteo is probably a really good idea. You are likely to lose a lot of bone density fast if you don't.... and the side effects are usually minimal. The bisphosphonate may not likely increase your bone strength and density much but likely will keep you from getting much worse.... and you don't want it worse.

I am surprised you are on Forteo for 4 years! It should be 2 years only to avoid bone cancer risk! Not sure what your doctor say about it.

I've been on forteo 13 months now. There is side effects, fatigue, body aches belly fat but nothing extreme. Some days worse than others but it's worth it. its only 18 months and it is making a difference. I recommend it.
