We are "twins." I, too, was diagnosed with a (likely) vagus neck tumor and am slated for proton radiation in Rochester soon. Mayo has been great! It's interesting how all the surgeons I've seen in the past 8 months since discovery seem to know nothing about targeted radiation like proton. For virtually inoperable tumors, it seems to be the way to go.

How did your radiation go?

I'm having genetic testing as well.

I did not have radiation. I had the blood supply rerouted from my tumor (which was located on the intersection (bifurcation) of my carotid artery on Day 1, and on Day 2, the tumor was removed. The nerves were all undamaged, including the vagus nerve. I'm still recuperating. The incision is healing VERY well. I'm having alot of ear pain and stinging nerve twinge in my neck, which is part of any healing process when you're cut open. I also had 1 large suspicious looking lymph node removed. Both the tumor and the lymph node were benign. Wishing you the very best in your journey.
