Hmmmm, don't know why your surgeon would think their job is done. The surgeon should be the first point of contact to try and diagnose the cause of the pain.
I would go back to your surgeon and at least ask them for a diagnosis, and barring that, ask for a referral.
Some Drs hold a title like"Dr of Physical Medicine. These Drs are very knowledgeable and can diagnose a number of problems a patient may have. They used to be, and maybe still are, referred to as Sports Medicine drs, but this is misleading. I have a Dr like this and she has referred me to specialists own two occasions, both successful.
