Surf is UP !!!! @@
So- here we go ! 😣
The time has FINALLY come, but at the same time "suddenly” ... This Tuesday (tomorrow) my husband is having surgery at noon and according to written instructions he will be released next day to go home.
I am so very fortunate that our younger daughter lives in the same area so she will be giving us a ride and keep me company during procedure, otherwise the surgeon would be forced to put me "under" too 🥴 to stop my crazy pacing through corridors.
We are ready as much as one can be ready, all is sanitized, cleaned, cooked, folded and sparkly and stored in one place so there is no guessing "where the heck is that Senokot" 🙄. My brain is scrambled completely because of the stress and I feel like my fellow posters here that are on ADT - yesterday I called a bookcase "the thing with boards and books" XP.
Prayers and good vibes are welcome : ))), and I will keep you all posted about everything.
I also want to use this opportunity to thank everybody on this forum for every advice and every comforting word that I received since I came here in February (or was it March ?), I can not remember since all of those months are one very loooong blurry day that never ended ....
I will leave you now with a short poem : )) and will post again as soon as I can : ). HUGSSSS to allll !!!
If you believe in fairies,
ask them,
If you believe in God,
ask him,
If you believe in destiny,
ask it,
Ask them all to send healing
for surfer who sailed the seas,
trying to find peace,
but never found it.
Ask for gentle waves and siren songs,
the mistral breeze to bring him home.
I’ll be waiting,
forever,
without a cease.

2 ReactionsThanks all for stopping by this afternoon : ))) and for continued support ! 💖 You guys make my day : ))) ! I hope you are all doing well and are enjoying those last weeks of summer :). I am very tiered but am slowly recovering from all the excitement and worry.
Here is a short update for future patients, others please just skip reading boring stuff 😉 LOL :
Afternoon was spent resting, napping, watching some movies. There is no pain, just some soreness in pelvic floor area he says "like when you have very long bike ride". Belly muscles do not hurt at all, he can move normally, sit up, lay down, get up etc with no pain. The only time he felt some "poky pain" was when I made him laugh hard, I guess a different set of muscle strands activate for that belly movement.
He did not have any bowel movement since surgery and although it is just the second day he was panicking a little and asked for Miralax. I know that Miralax is considered a "mild laxative" BUT since we are very regular and go several times a day it is a strong laxative for people like us. I decided to give him just half of a dose and boy was I right *sigh. Poor darling went to bathroom 3 times in a span of an hour but now one more milestone is reached - yeay ; ). BP is OK , little bit "lowish", but he had that diarrhea thing happen and probably lost a lot of electrolytes. I will go in the morning to buy him some Pedialite or something similar.
He does not have any bladder spasms (thanks God, they must be really painful ), and is a trooper with catheter, takes care of the bag and all with no problems. He is keeping big bag all day, it is more convenient for now.
All in all, he is doing really well (knock the wood) and I guess every following day will be even better : ))). Cheers to that !

3 ReactionsHe's doing great.
I kept the big bag on, too, and didn't bother with the leg bag. I didn't go outside much anyway - except to sit on the porch for some sun.
Surprised that he had to use Miralax.
Usually there's some kind of laxative in the Bag 'O Drugs that you walk out of hospital with.
Must be different up there.
Lots of rest, a bit of walking & lots of Gatorade or similar.
He'll be fine. He's got a great nurse.

2 ReactionsThe whole thing about passing wind after surgery and having the first bowel movement makes for great jokes (which I willingly participate in), but it's actually critical, so good on him!
When your intestines don't wake up again from the anaesthesia after surgery, it's called an "ileus", and it's very nasty. Mine lasted two weeks, and I ended up with a suction tube through my nose down into my stomach and IV feeding. It was another 6 weeks or so after that before I could hold down much food even once my intestines did start working again (reaching the bare 800 cal/day minimum to avoid starvation was a real struggle).
So, folks, that post-surgical wind passing and bowel movement are the most important of your life, and well worthy of celebration!

8 ReactionsOh yes. I forgot about that. I remember reading about post-operative ileus.
Fortunately, it didn't happen to me.
One of the many 'just because you read about it, doesn't mean it'll happen to you' cases that this thing loves to throw at us.
Glad you got through it, though.

1 ReactionOh my : (((, that must have been so scary and painful :(, I am soooo sorry that you had to go through that on TOP of everything *hugsssss !!!
"NorthStar" - it is really amazing how resilient you are and how you managed to keep positive attitude through all of that and to this day 🙂 and still finding time to help others in their struggles no matter how minor they are in comparison to yours. < 3

3 ReactionsThanks Peter for cheering us up : ))) !
We were advised to take Colace and Senokot on a daily bases (morning and night) and we did. In instructions that we got it was said to use Miralax in case bowel movement does not occur by day 3 post op. It was only day 2, but he had a feeling that "all is right there" but is not moving out effortlessly. I was thinking that perhaps he is "just having that feeling" that something is pressing there since all is probably still swollen inside pelvic cavity and full of gas but by afternoon he was "sure" it is there and not moving out so we decided to try Miralax. It worked too well, unfortunately :/. He was happy to be done with that hurdle , however, so all is well that ends wall , I guess ; ). This morning he had normal BM and I hope that from this day on he will be on regular schedule with poop elimination. He is still taking Colace since it should be taken (by doctors order) for 2 weeks, no matter what.

1 ReactionHi Edin : ))) ! I am so glad that you like my progress reports 😊 and I hope some future patient will find them useful. Usually patients report that they are doing well but "well" might be one thing for one person and another thing for somebody else.
Yes, only after catheter removal we will know how things are really doing "down there" :). As of now I only worry about pathology report *sigh, : ((( and hope that all is as it was seen on a scan 🍀 ...
Thanks for stopping by to say hello 😊 !
