Orgovyx & Gynecomastia

Posted by urgie11 @urgie11, Aug 13 4:24am

Hey, I'm 56, in really good health and will start a 6-month treatment of ADT with Orgovyx. Brachytherapy and Targeted radiation is scheduled for mid October going into late November. I elected to treat my prostate Cancer this route instead of with surgery simply because I was going to need to have radiation post-surgery anyway. I also had nerve involvement with a 4+3 Gleason score - nerve sparing surgery was highly unlikely.

Question, I'm striving to stay very fit as I'm going through this, but am concerned about the reported fatigue, cardio impacts and even Gynecomastia? Has anyone completed 6 month regimen of Orgovyx and come out on the other side with good results? IS Gynecomastia really a hige concern? I go to the gym 5 days a week and walk 3 miles a day or swim a minimum of 5 days a week too. Any advice?

Hey man, thanks for the heads up. Tell me about depression and insomnia? Did it creep up on you? How did you deal? I'm reading that good cardio once or twice a day should take the edge off the mood swings and depression. I lift weight often and will quit drinking once on Orgovyx (its tough on the liver to begin with). I can deal with anything for 180 days - especially to kill this Cancer with a hope and a prayer.

Both of them crept up. The depression was the roughest. At first, the nurse told me I was feeling depressed because I had cancer but it was MUCH worse than that and than anything I'd experienced before. It's hard to describe--a sadness beyond sad. I waited too long to get some help for it but when I did I was put on Wellbutrin which almost immediately helped clear the brain fog and, about 3-4 weeks later, my mood improved dramatically. If you start to feel REALLY depressed I would recommend not waiting like I did. A lot of guys in my support group use Effexor which helps with depression and hot flashes, but I didn't get hot flashes.

I just finished 6 months on Orgovyx a couple weeks ago and, like a couple other guys have said, I had hardly any side effects. Loss of libido the worst. Other than that a few warm flashes (I say warm instead of hot because that weren't raging, sweat drenched episodes, just getting little warmer for a few minutes, then subsiding). I do run 5 days a week (30 - 40 miles per week) and lift 2-3 times per week, about an hour each. My MO and my other research indicate gynecomastia, osteopenia and other more dreadful side effects are much more common on longer regimens.

I had Elegard for one year and I noticed some enlargement of breast tissue. I looked around for information about it, and came across a YouTube video from PCRI that suggested light radiation of the nipples could prevent it if done before ADT starts. I didn’t have the radiation for that purpose because I found out about when I was well into ADT.

I’ve been on ADT therapy for 7 years following prostatectomy and radiation. Started off with Lupron then Eligard then a vacation. PSA started doubling every 3 months then I was put on Orgovyx for 2 years. I started getting mouth ulcers to the point I was on a liquid diet much of the time. Along with this my blood count bottomed out. No proof whether this was coincidental or not. Had swelling in my throat and tongue area so I was switched to Xtandi. I started having mild seizures and man boobs were to the point I was embarrassed. Many good reports on both these pill forms of ADT but just not good for me. I’m on vacation now for two months and PSA is rising and doubling every 4-5 weeks. My oncologist is considering Lupron once again along with a secondary treatment. I hope Orgovyx works great for you it just didn’t like me for some reason. I encourage you to be positive and don’t let this ugly disease define you. Good luck

Talk to your doctor about Nubeqa (Darolutamide). It’s a lutamide like Xtandi But has many fewer side effects. It also doesn’t pass the blood brain barrier so it doesn’t cause brain fog.

I’ve been on it for two years and after 15 years of prostate cancer, I’ve been undetectable for 20 months. I know at least an dozen other people over at ancan.org Who are on it either standalone or with ADT. In every case they’re undetectable it works so well.

Thanks. I’ll pass this along to my Dr. tomorrow I’ll be going to a Hemotologist oncologist for the first time to try to figure out why my blood count and platelets are very low and still dropping. It’s been a journey but this disease is not necessarily a deadly diagnosis like it was several years back.
