I have a similar problem. I am a diabetic but well controlled. My doctor has been happy with my levels.

My daily glucose levels in the AM before breakfast is usually 98-110. This is my norm for several years.
My last A1C which even surprised my doctor was 5.3. I am normally 5.6-5.9 most of the time.
The only exceptions is when I get sick. I am prone to bad bacterial infections. When I do get sick both numbers can shoot up. My fasting glucose has been as high as 140. And A1C has reached 6.9-7.5 at times. After I am on antibiotics for several weeks I go back down to my norms.

Hi,
The same thing happens to me, when I had type 1 diabetes no matter what I did night before , my morning fasting were above normal and now I have had a pancreas TX for over 23 years now, and from day one , no matter how well my A1C is , my blood sugar in the mornings tend to usually be on the higher side.
Something about my biology has always been that way, wish I knew what causes it.
