Girdlestone Procedure
Has anyone else had the Girdlestone procedure performed? I had teeth removed since Sepsis supposedly originated in my mouth. I then had my right hip removed. Consequently my right leg is 2.5" shorter. I use a wheelchair and walker. I am interested in other peoples experiences.

Sounds great thank you
Hi,
I had the Girdlestone procedure performed in June 2019 after a year's struggle with MRSA in my broken femur that would not heal. I have an 8 cm. LLD that I use a lift on my shoe, but I still need a walker to get around the house, and use a scooter outside. I still get pain in the leg, especially if I walk more than usually.
I had Girdlestone surgery done and it started with breaking my left femur. They tried to fix it but failed as I have very brittle and spongy bones. Holes and such. I had 5 or 6 surgeries, mostly to clean out infections. They took out all the hardware and was on IV antibiotics for about 10 weeks. Just sitting up now it has been tasking. Have walker, wheelchair, and crutches so hope to walk soon. Anyone know place to get shoes for balance as my left leg is now 2.5" shorter also.
Talk to PT - there are orthotists and shoemakers who will take your shoes and add a lift for the shorter leg by building up the sole.
Hi Tialbin
Sorry for everything you're going thru. Hang in there.
As far as shoe lifts go, I found a place in CO. They're very good n very reasonable.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT INFO RE: SHOE LIFTS!
Hello all. I had a girdlestone procedure done in 2018. I use a walker or sometimes an electric wheelchair for outdoor events but otherwise get along fairly well. We have recognized the lack of information and support there is for individuals facing this procedure and especially how to live afterwards. As a result I started a FB page I encourage all of you to visit. We have individuals from across the world who have found us and there is a plethora of information you can read. We are not medical professionals and do not provide medical advice.
