I had to look up the generic for Lexapro. It is escitalopram. I take this medication since 2015. It worked wonders for me. I had developed PTSD anxiety/panic disorder or past Vietnam Service, Police Officer, and then 5 shocks of ICD over just several hours.

I saw a pyschiatric specialist at Mayo and went through a loto of tests. The pyschiatric medication specialist worked with my other care givers and prescribed escitalopram. It really helped lesson my depression over the episodes and slowy came out of not going into public at all.

I don't recall any side affects other than positive ones. I have read on MCC others that have though. I do know I recently was under tremendous stress over my wife's medical condition and my Mayo psychiatric specialist suggested rasing my dosage from 10 mg to 15 mg per day. I said let me try to work out of it with my exercise program and get back to you. I was able to not go on it and I think the medication itself allow that and the positive feeling you get to overcome.

I have heart failure and have a ICD/Pacemaker and the Lexapro does have an impact on certain electrical waves in heart. This is where pyschiatric worked with other providers where it was deemed not a problem.

About a year ago I had lost a nephew, two brother in laws and a sister. I thought I would be devastated and a wreck. I was not and though really sad I was able to handle it. I talked to my psychiatric specialist about this and was told it was the escitilopram. The only negative thing I can post is I was told I would need to stay on the drug for the rest of my life.

Lexapro has been a great addition for me and was prescribed after my terminal cancer diagnosis almost 4 years ago. I am very careful about adding meds, but this is one of the few anti depression meds that is not addictive! I started on 5mg and now take 10mg per day. I take it every am. It has made my days so much easier. I would recommend it!

I took 5 mg Lexapro for years and about a year ago, upped it to 10mg. No side effects here. Good luck.

I have been on ' Lexapro for 4 months after coming off of long term Prozac, which stopped working. I started with 10 mg and then to 20 mg of Lexapro. The result for me, is a feeling of dullness and chronic fatigue.
After a long consultation with my physician, I am weaning off Lexapro, and beginning Prozac again. My doc ordered a gene study for likely anti depressants and although Prozac was in the maybe range, it has worked for me in the past over the years. Lexapro was a top choice in the gene study. The best choice for for me according to AI, and the gene study seems to be Trintellix, which is $480 mo. With that said, I am passing and once again trying Prozac. Hope this helps someone.

I have been on it for maybe 15 years. It was a miracle drug for me regarding depression, and anxiety. Beware of the generic though. The pharmacies switched me to generic which did not work for me.

I was using Lexapro 20mg for about 10 years. It was great until it stopped working now I am on Zoloft 125 mg which isnt working as well. I hope I can go back to Lexapro.

I was on Lexapro for maybe 15 years and it was wonderful. However, it quit working for me and I can't seem to find something to replace it. I'm beginning to wonder if I ever will. Has anyone had any luck going back to Lexapro after being off of it for a whie?

I have been struggling with anxiety and depression. . Just wondering if anyone has tried Lexapro. I was prescribed 10 mg once a day. I’ve been on it for 3 months and don’t see much improvement so far. I find upon waking I have random thoughts that don’t really make much sense, a bit like a dream. Not necessarily dark thoughts, as I said just random silly things. Is anyone on this drug, apparently the withdrawal is brutal if you don’t come off them very slowly.
If anyone can help I’d appreciate it, thank you!

I recently started having anxiety attacks in the middle of the night that are very strong, I have been taking Ativan for over twenty years and also 20 mg. of Amitriptyline, an older antidepressants often used for pain. My anxiety is at its worst around 4 am. but lately the anxiety has gotten worse. I didn’t want to increase the Ativan so I started taking Lexapro, I’ve been on it for 4 days now. I feel so bad now with more anxiety, headaches and cramps in my legs and arms, I take 5 mg. but reduced it to 2.5 mg. I read that this drug can cause anxiety in the beginning and should go away after 1-2 weeks, I also had to increase the Ativan to help me cope with the anxiety from the Lexapro. I am not a good candidate for antidepressants and always avoided them but I’m trying to find another option instead of increasing the Ativan, I already feel defeated because I had to increase them anyway due to the Lexapro. I’m not sure what to do, I know it’s still early being 4 days but I’m fearful of increasing the Ativan. I would like to know if anyone else has taken Lexapro and how it affected you, should I persevere a while longer or look for another option, thank you.
