I was put on Prolia for 15 years and I now have necrosis of the jaw and have had to have part of my jaw removed! Be careful. I can not afford $5000 a month for Forteo or do I want to take another drug which I appear to be a guinea pig to test.
Amgen and the FDA have this response to my contacting them," So what?"
So, I am told that I will just deteriorate from now on.........Good luck...all 3 endocrinologists I have seen have told me there is nothing else I can do.....
My Prolia injections ( 2 per year) cost $1260 until 2020 when it could no longer just be given to me by my endocrinologist but NOW have to go to an infusion center which bills Medicare $4250!!!!! I walk in, they ask my birthdate take my blood pressure, give me the shot ( takes in total about 15 minutes) and bill $4250!!!! When the current administration says Americans are being fleeced, they are correct.
I would suggest- if you have to go the drug route, to try Evenity first...which is not as HARSH as Prolia. Also, religiously take your max of Calcium, Magnesium, and Vit D supplements each day.
I now have 3 endocrinologists that tell me that Forteo like drugs are my only recourse. This is not an option for me........
holls25, the real cost of Prolia is that it is very difficult to stop taking without making your bones worse. In the controversy over Prolia, I'm on the side that says there are better drugs. You might take a look at Forteo. I consider that it builds the strongest, most resilient bone. Call RX Advocates with low income, you can get pens for $80 dollars a month. (844) 559-8332 without using Medicare part D.
I've been taking Forteo and can recommend the drug. But look seriously at Prolia. It can be a dangerous drug.
Did your mom have secondary causes for osteoporosis?
