How Much Exercise during ADT?
I'm in my 8th month (of 24 planned) of Orgovyx and and three months past 44 weekday radiation treatments. Fatigue is a huge issue, and exercise helps reduce the effect a little. I have about an hour of stretching and aerobic (step machine and stationary bike) each weekday which provides a couple of hours of relief. I read somewhere to aim for 30 minutes daily during treatment and 90 afterward. Any recommendations? Both rotator cuffs are blown, so upper body activities are very limited. Thanks for your input!

Hahaha, same here. I call it the happy nappy! 🙂
For me Wellness is everything. My Wellness Program consist of (1) Exercise, (2) social life, (3) nutrition, and (4) meditation, all four everyday work well for me. My goal is Wellness, all four, meaningful every day. I am 4.8 years in on my cancer journey, countless treatments and aPC have taken a toll on my body's responsiveness. I use to be a 30 minute exercise 3 times per day guy. Those days just aren't sustainable for me and my cancer anymore.
I hired a Wellness Phycologist, she's amazing, we review my Wellness Plan every two weeks and set new Wellness Goals. Epically helpful.
Yes, I think the cardio exercises you do are more important than strength of arms and chest. Your program sounds good for you . Keep it up and all the best,.,
As an exerciser myself that exercised through radiation and ADT, I would say listen to your body and do as much as it allows you to do without digging too deep of a fatigue hole. That's how I gauged it. Many of us tend to gain weight while on ADT and exercise really helps.
I am on Orgovyx. I usually handle it well, but the fatigue sometimes gets to me. From my personal experience , it is exercise that makes the great difference. When I was excercing-nothing strenuous (bicycling and swimming), every day, I felt the best. When I stopped exercising because I went on an extended trip is when I felt the worst.
Thanks! I said to my urologist last week, "It's wise that you don't tell us everything at the beginning." Fatigue is severe and exercise lessens but doesn't eliminate it. I also notice that home projects (yard, auto, etc.) don't seem to substitute for aerobic, stretching, and strengthening exercises, but exercise gives me enough energy to attempt a step or two of a project daily. I'm hoping to be a DIY guy at home as long as possible, so I have to keep exercising.
ADT for myself shortens the things I want to get done for the day. When fatigue hits in the afternoon, I just gotta lie down to rest. I blame this on my testosterone level of 20 last week. Should be around 200. So I plan each day with ONE item to accomplish in addition to my various exercises daily.
I've found that pretty much any movement at all can help stave off the fatigue. Even something as simple as going grocery shopping holds it at bay. (just don't sit down before you put the frozen food away)
Yes to the one item. After exercise yesterday, I cut back one shrub and did a little shopping and I was done for the day. My Testosterone in May was 0 after 5 months of Orgovyx and 44 radiation treatments; it and PSA will be tested again early September.
I do better with an exercise program and then add something like shopping or a home project. The 30 min. of cardio may make the difference for me, but fatigue is still serious.
