Hello. I hope this helps someone.
In January 2025 and possibly the first time in summer of 2023. I began having a series of symptoms that felt like they came on out of nowhere - most notably right upper quadrant pain, bloating after meals, a sudden change in stool color to a rusty orange color, a weird form of reflux, nerve pain in the side of my neck and odd back pain which I know is biliary colic - stabbing pain in right shoulder blade. These symptoms were daily and miserable for nearly 2+ months
Diagnosing went like this:
- H Pylori blood test - inconclusive
- RUQ ultrasound - no stones/sludge - mild thickening
- EGD - normal - mild irritation in antrum portion of stomach
- Encouraged to take PPI (which I did for 10 weeks - uncertain it made much improvement)
- HIDA Scan - 91% EF (Gastro said this was normal
- Colonoscopy in May upon turning 45 - completely clean
Symptoms starting to lessen and become more episodic - lasting for a week but not months ..
Met with general surgeon who previously removed my appendix.
He was unfamiliar with Hyperkinetic or CASPER Gallbladder … but wouldn’t consider removing in absence of stones / sludge or a low ejection fraction HIDA.
Tapped into a medical assistance app through my employer and after a bunch of legwork was connected with someone with more experience with these conditions
Immediate recommendation was cholecystectomy and stated in his experience - symptom resolution at 80% likelihood and symptom improvement almost guaranteed.
I feel for people who have dealt with this for years - I speculate a lot of misdiagnosed IBS is this.
My surgery is scheduled for October and I’ll update upon removal.
Good luck all.
