Stem Cell Therapy for Arthritic Knees

Posted by tropicallady1276 @tropicallady1276, May 10, 2017

I am a 77 year old woman with arthritic knees where it's difficult for me to walk and I'm trying to avoid knee replacement. I have done the Synvisc injections and physical therapy-- to no avail. Is there anyone here who has had stem cell therapy for arthritic knees and I would like to know your outcome. I know there are two, one where bone marrow is removed and the other where they take fat from the abdomen and regenerate and inject into the knees. I would like to know the cost and how long the procedure takes and any other information which would be helpful to me. I live in North Jersey and am currently looking for clinics in my area who perform this procedure. I appreciate your help.

I have had both the PRP injections and the new procedure MFAT. That is where they do the liposuction and then inject that into the knee. Some doctors used PRP with the fat and some don’t I like you I’m trying to avoid a knee replacement. This procedure was out-of-pocket it was $3500 for one knee I definitely think it helped But I remain proactive. I had this done two years ago and have continued to get the hyaluronic acid injections every six months mainly because Medicare pays for them and it certainly can’t hurt. I do exercise and play pickle ball as much as my knee will allow. I highly recommend Scott Hogan‘s book Built from Broken. It has helped me immensely.

I am trying "Softwave Technology" ultrasound stimulation for Arthritis in the Knee joint it is supposed to be regenerative, the first treatment certainly reduced the pain and made walking easier.
Does any body else have any experience with this?

How did you find out about the "Softwave Technoplogy" ?

Was it from an ortho doctor or a pain managements specialist doctor? Covered by insurance? If not, how much did it cost? Did they say how long the positive effect would last, assuming it was going to work? What was wrong with your knees? Meniscus operation beforehand, ligament inflammation, or??? Was the intention to regenerate meniscus and cartilage?
Thank you so much!

Hi, learned about Softwave from an email add. My right knee was replaced in 2011 because x rays showed bone on bone and I was in severe pain. Left knee has got steadily worse with arthritis and surgeon said some time ago that it needed replacing. It is not covered by insurance and they have not said how long a course of 10 treatments will last but the pain release has been instant. Cost is $2250.

Hello. I looked into this two years ago and found out from more than one provider that :
-if you are true bone on bone with little to no membrane left on each knee like I am, then, stem cell treatment will usually not work.
I hope you can prove this wrong.
Blessings to all.

@gastropub1 Mike is correct in that with bone on bone with negative membrane to make healthy nothing will help except a repair not a band aide. Yes the shot helped you and may continue to until your money runs out or you cannot walk and need the fix. Please be careful you don’t fall if your knee gives out and you injure something else. The orthopedic doctor I’m sure is happy to take your money and give you the injections though.

I tried the sound wave and after the treatment they were pushing extra hard for me to say I felt better. I felt something for sure but couldn’t honestly say better. The person who gave my knee a massage, now that did feel better! I am trying stem cells now and going on my 4th month. Sometimes I feel better, sometimes not. Have about half my cartilage left on both knees, half the bone is bone on bone. The other half still has cartilage in between, one of the doctors told me if I have no relief at end of treatment they will do something else to help. I asked will it cost more and he said no. I’m 66 and still using an old push mower to do the yard. It’s been years since I did the yard without taking any breaks every 15 minutes to cool my aching knees off and the last two times I mowed none stop once and only one break the other time. Grass getting high again. Going to go cut it in a little bit. Will add to this in a while hopefully.

I have not had any shot as yet, thanks for your concern even if there is some misunderstanding 🤗
