Chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC): Diagnostic Experiences
I was diagnosed with CIC three years ago. I take two prescription meds for it and I just saw a colorectal surgeon who wants to do an anal manometry, a sitz marker test and an MRI defecography. Anyone have any experience with this?

I was put in a dark room, lying down. I watched a beautiful video of the ocean and listened to the ocean waves while Pachelbel's Canon played softly. I did this twice a week for 6 weeks. Then they did the manometry again and I swallowed a big pill that timed my motility. It increased 67%. I studied biofeedback for years before that but it would work for a newbie also. Check out Youtube videos on relaxation/meditation and do it daily. I also do the gayatri mantra every morning for at least 20 minutes. You can look up Devi Premal gayatri mantra on Youtube.

6 ReactionsThank you, that’s fascinating. Your experience makes me think anxiety could be part of my problem. May I ask how long you’ve had CIC? Mine has been decades long but worsening over the last twenty years and only diagnosed three years ago.
(I used to meditate- maybe it’s time to start again.)

1 ReactionOkay. Wow. My mother said they put drops of prune juice in my baby bottles so that would be a long time too.
Do you have your February's manometry test results yet, @bouli ?

2 ReactionsI wish! My gastroenterologist contacted the colorectal surgeon’s office three weeks ago and I’ve still not heard anything. Thanks for asking. I’ll post the results when I finally get them!
