@baz, so glad you came back to report on your surgery. I have rectal prolapse but also have proctitis, which evidently has healed but am left with scar tissue, and am concerned about that with surgery as I don't want a stricture to form in my rectum. I also am thinking of going to Stanford to talk about surgery but am so apprehensive. Thanks for reporting back as I was looking for your post. I just joined this site. Who was your doctor, if you remember?

I see you've joined Mayo Clinic Connect recently, @cc510, so welcome.

When I was being examined for a vaginal prolapse after things "fell down" after my last baby's delivery, they also found I had a rectocele. So, included in my repair package, so to speak, was a repair for this. I had no known symptoms of this and was rather surprised to learn about it.

After this surgery, I felt a bit tight in the anal area, but it felt normal in a few weeks. I did feel absolutely terrified trying to defecate for the first time after surgery, as I recall (this was 2012). I remember I was so worried I would blow out my stitches. The nurses in the hospital were reassuring, and it went fine with no stiches getting blown out.

Are you going to visit with a doctor from Stanford? Are you having symptoms from your prolapse?
