Stool always floats (but fecal fat stool test was negative)

Hi. I have the above referenced issues, but feel relatively good…albeit losing 15 pounds in 4 months without trying. Have good appetite, but get full relatively quickly. Colonoscopy all good. Endoscopy just shows erosions, waiting for biopsy results. Gastro says it’s GERD, but I don’t have much more than mild stomach discomfort. Have CT with dye of chest, pelvis/abdomen scheduled, but thinking it’s aggressive and maybe should wait for endoscopic pathology. Stool always floats, but fecal fat stool test was negative. Blood work CBC normal. Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Since I am focused on digestive issues, I have noticed that most of my bowel movements float. This could have been going on for a long time and I just never noticed it. Is it possible that some people's bowel movements mostly float and that there is no problem with malabsorption? I have plenty of energy and my weight is lower than I'd like, but not really declining any more.

When I was on Prilosec and Pepcid, the bowel movements were kinda orange-colored. Now that I am off of Prilosec, they are back to regular brown color. Did anyone else have this situation?

Hi, @margot6425 - I was not finding the use of CT you may be mentioning. In a medical context, CT usually stands for "computed tomography." Was this in one of the articles shared by @baguette or @rashida?

It is CAT scan. Computerized Axial Tomography.

Do not wait. Do the scan. There are issues that are not seen with colonoscopy and endoscopy.

Have you been checked for celiac disease? A gluten allergy or sensitivity could also be the reason. While poop should not float, is there a greasy appearance in the toilet water? These are some specific signs to look for. Even without celiac, decreasing the gluten or going gluten free can be very helpful. Good luck.

Is the stool furry ? like you are pooping a toupee ? Could be pancreatitis. I know fat in stool floats. Staying very hydrated will lower your cholesterol, so maybe your body is getting rid of chollesterol and fat. My LDL is high, but ONLY my LDL, all others are normal. Me and metamucil are best friends. Gag me.

Hi Lisa
I am familiar with CAT (Computerized axial tomography) scan, but calling it CT was confusing, like calling an MRI a MI is not the same thing. When using initials, please use the most common and complete ones. Thaks.
