Your doctor seems to be using the Keppra protocol that mine followed. Started low dose and then increased the dose when the seizures continued. I now am taking 1500 mg of extended release Keppra 2x a day. A heavy dose with the side effect of continual tiredness but it works where the lower doses did not. And the extended release Keppra works better for me than the straight formulation. In the meantime, it’s good to review the safety precautions needed to be safe during an unexpected seizure. And if the increased Keppra doesn’t work, then it might be time to ask for a referral to an epilepsy specialist.
I forgot to mention one other thing which helped when the seizures started. The doctor’s assistant worked with me to identify my seizure triggers. I learned that caffeine is a major trigger for me and so, when I quit the coffee, there was an instant improvement.

You mentioned a possible second opinion. Are you considering an epileptologist to diagnose the exact type of seizures you've experienced? How are you doing today with side effects from the levetiracetam (Keppra) new dosage?
