This week, I will have surgery on my fifth (small) toe to correct a hammertoe. Are there any recent reports about recovery that you can share. I am healthy but have read and been advised that recovery may take 4 or more weeks. Does this match your experiences? I am 78, I walk or bike daily and hit the gym 5 or 6 days a week. I would like to resume some yoga and upper body exercises as soon as possible without creating problems.
Any advice about how to heal and recover speedily?
Thanks, Shirley

They put a 5 inch long pin through your toe and into your foot to keep your toe straight while it heals. It has an eyelet on the end that sticks out. You have to turn it every couple days in order to keep your flesh from growing onto the pin. I had 8 toes done and no indication that the surgery caused neuropathy.
