Does anyone suffer from random hand cramping and finger contractures?
I am at wit’s end with a problem I’ve been having with my hands and fingers. My hands randomly have spasms and my fingers randomly contract. In particular, the fingers that contract are my index finger in my middle finger and occasionally my thumb. My fingers curl inward towards my palm and will not release for a few minutes. I saw a hand specialist last week who took x-rays and checked me for carpal tunnel and trigger finger, and said I did not have any major issues with my hands. He thought the issue might be spine/nerve related and he referred me to a neurologist. The neurologist ordered blood tests to see if I had any vitamin/mineral deficiencies and also ordered a thyroid test. All results have come back normal. Something has got to be causing the painful spasms and the finger contractions. The neurologist prescribed Gabapentin, and I just started taking it. Has anyone else had experience with random hand spasms and finger contractions?

I LOVE pickle juice!! Now I'm replacing the mustard! Lol! Thanks!!
You can buy Pickle Juice shots online (Amazon) and at Walmart.
Had no idea but we like the pickles too so that works!
I love calcium citrate from Doublewood. Have been taking it for years for other issues. This may sound weird but if you find no reason for cramps, try taking a slug of pickle juice , apple cider vinegar or mustard when you get the cramps.. I swear by it only once it didn't work. I also use it for leg cramps.I have PsA and my hands cramp from holding a book while I read or struggle to open jars. Old age . It's beautifal isn't it?
Drs say my hand cramping and locking could be from a pinched nerve in my neck. I think the liver is to blame...but who knows why???
I have had cirrhosis for 10 years. Autoimmune and hemochomatosis.
I am congratulated by my doctor's for being so far so good! Along the path, I have had many strange maladies.
I am also managing T2 diabetes...fun! My hands bothered me last year so much I would cry in pain. So far this year, very few issues. Would like to hear about those of us with the all the little side trials we go thru with liver disease.
Well said marceille. Getting old is not for sissies.

Have started periodic hand cramping after starting Rosuvastatin. Not a big deal given the positive results from the statin drug.
I have had similar experiences although the causes are not the same. I don't know what causes my problems- but I am not one to want surgery!
I would keep a diary of your concerns and symptoms. That will help you.
I went to a therapist who gave me finger splints. It helped but not as much as understanding that if you have overuse of the hands or related body parts- it contributes. Other things (like many of you mentioned) cause problems.
It is great to do research on your own. Bring it to the professionals to get advice.
Best!

Yeah I would agree that the results Statins provide are more important than hand cramps. I take a statin, have been for many years, and it controls my otherwise high cholesterol. It's also a myth that only overweight people have high cholesterol . I'm 5'10" and 155 lbs, my Mom was maybe 5'6" and 120 lbs and we both have/had high cholesterol. I eat well, sleep well, and I'm at the gym everyday.
I'm 70 y/o now and I do get hand cramping from time to time. It's more weird and inconvenient than it is painful. It doesn't happen often, and even if there was an Rx for it, my Rx list is long enough.......

random hand/finger cramping has happened to me. I'm on Tymlos and figued it had to do with that drug and electrolytes. It has only happened a few times ..the last 3 fingers and I had to pull them slowy off my palm to get them to straighten. 99.99 % of my cramps are in my lower extremities. First time for my hands .
