Dear fdixon,
I am sorry your problems are continuing. Two years ago, I had multiple episodes of diarrhea every day and had a colonoscopy which revealed microscopic colitis. I was prescribed Budesonide 3 mg daily (forever, I guess) and as it worked so well, I am still taking it now.
You do not specify what your Budesonide dosage was. Why was it stopped after 3 months? Was it because of the constipation? Were you on a high Budesonide dose?
The WEIRD THING thing that has worked for me is: I take 3 mg Budesonide every morning, and I also take 1 Docusate sodium 100 mg softgel every morning too. This seems to balance out the diarrhea and constipation problem as they are opposites. I am not recommending this, just telling you that it works for me!

Hi Margot. Thanks for your input. Are you saying you have always been only taking one 3 mg capsule a day? That is so different from what I been prescribed each time. In the past, I asked my GI doc if I could continue the Budesonide on a long tern basis and was told no. I think the reason is because it is a steroid. I'm on 3 capsules (9 mg total) in the morning for a month. There are 3 refills. The doc did not say if I should check with him at the end of the month or??? I'm not scheduled to see him again until October. The previous times I've been on it, I would take 3 every day for a month, then 2 a day for a month and 1 a day for a month and that would end the treatment period. He told me to not restrict what I ate to test the medication. On day six I ate fried fish, fried potatoes and fried hush puppies. My problems began in a couple of hours and the next day I had to take a third Imodium before the BM's would stop. In the 11 days I've been on it, there has been a mix of too many trips to the bathroom to some constipation. I have to be careful as I've had part of my colon removed. I think I need to send a portal message and ask what the doctor wants me to do at the end of the month long use. I also use Colace when my colon needs urging. I'm happy you've found a combination that works. I'll keep searching for what works for me. Thanks again.
