I'm constantly afraid of falling or breaking a bone. At least once a month, I feel like I have a hairline fracture in the ankles and knees and I cannot walk for a few days. This used to happen more often and last longer. Ice and rest help. I wonder if this happens to anyone else.

But I refuse to take any drugs. They all seem to have bad side effects. I might change my mind after my next dexa bone scan, but for now, I'm doing fine trying to do things slow and be careful. No bending or pushing.

Please reconsider. Drugs *may* have side effects. It isn't guaranteed and it isn't even for the majority of people. You know what's a bad side effect? Breaking your hip. For a healthy person, that could mean a hip replacement and months of therapy. For an elderly person, it's a death sentence.

It doesn't sound like you're doing fine, to be honest. It sounds like you're in pain.

I do not know how old you are.

If you have knee arthritis, you need to build up the muscles in the ankles and knees.
Have you considered one on one osteoporosis PT classes?

Are you dealing with plantar fasciitis in your ankle?
